DYK Thread for JULY

**For those uncertain to what a DYK thread is......**

DYK stands for Did You Know or Do You Know

It is simply a chit chat thread where every thought is written in sentences and each sentences starts with the initials DYK---it is fun, entertaining and a great way to meet the board members

Below are some fun DYK blinkies--feel free to snag any if you like:

not responsibility, but we carpooled a lot when I was in high school. To school mostly, but some did carpool to work.

My step-sister had asthma, and my dad would not let me ride the bus from home (I rode the bus in the afternoon to my grandma's) because we lived in a very rough area. Whenever my step-sister missed school (she missed more than she went), I had to find someone to get me to school because my step-mother wouldn't leave until it was time to bring the boys to school.

And it was very UN-COOL to ride the bus at my school.....so almost everybody had more than just themselves in their vehicles. Even though I was dependent on others until I got my license (and then I drove a few people myself at that point), I was rarely ever the only other person in the car.

I also carpooled to college with others, and I didn't turn 18 until I took finals my first semester.

I also see it from my students' cases. I work in a poverty area, and there are very few "businesses" like fast food places, grocery stores, Wal-mart...they have to DRIVE to go to work. So they carpool with each other...they get jobs where they can have the same hours.

It's good for the environment, too! ;o)

I just know statistics show that the more teenagers in a car the higher the likelihood of an accident.

I don't know if the law is actually 18 or not here I just know that for a certain time frame after getting their licence a teenager can't drive around under age non relatives.

We always lived to far out to carpool.

DYK you can carpool, the driver has to be over 18....I understand in a way the logic. The more people in a vehicle, the more distractions (esp w/teens they are social to begin with so likely to lose concentration when driving w/their peers vs. driving in the car by themself). Look at it as a safety issue; I'm sure insurance companies are for it since the accident rate for teens is already higher than older drivers.

DYK I believe there are restrictions here in MD...can't drive w/ur provisional license between midnite-5 am unless you have justification (like a night job)
