DYK Thread for JULY

**For those uncertain to what a DYK thread is......**

DYK stands for Did You Know or Do You Know

It is simply a chit chat thread where every thought is written in sentences and each sentences starts with the initials DYK---it is fun, entertaining and a great way to meet the board members

Below are some fun DYK blinkies--feel free to snag any if you like:

Wow!..ouch, ouch, ouch!

You know, when I had my first MMR shot in '79, it wasn't MMR, it was MRC. I think it was mumps they weren't giving that year, I don't remember what the C was. I had asked Aly's ped, I think, and he told me, but I don't remember now.

I did get a second dose of MMR the summer before my senior year because I had done a program at LSU and they had had an outbreak of measles (I think?) on campus, so my dad had me re-vaccinated.

I don't recall my dr testing for that when I was pg.

However, she did routinely test for group B strep later in the pg, and a few years later, a friend of mine was not routinely tested with another dr and found out she had group B strep just a couple days before delivering. She was livid. But apparently, it was no longer a routine test at that point (around 2000).

I was tested for HIV in '96. Dr said they tested everyone (pg) so that nobody could claim discrimination.

I don't remember Aly complaining any more for the meningitis shot (at age 11/5th grade) than she had for any other shot.

I have been trying to convince DH since we bought the house to put a sunroom where the patio is off the kitchen. he's not going for it. I've also suggested a screened in porch, but most likely we'll just completely replace what is there now with a new overhang roof, floor decking and railing so that I can kind of keep the little kids contained. right now its just a patio with an overhang, no railing or anything and I can't keep Emma on it, she always runs of.

We have tons of room to build too and really could use the space since we didn't plan on having Madison when we bought it, and it was just barely enough room for the 4 of us. But DH wants to put a 2 car garage with a loft apartment out back, that way my parents can stay there when they visit and when jordyn goes off to college, she can stay in there when she comes home and the little girls won't be stuck sharing an 8x9 room forever.

Although I am also trying to convince him to build another garage in front of the current one since we have a long driveway and split the current garage into a laundry room, more storage, and a 4th bedroom.

HIV, Group B Strep and STD testing is all routine now for pregnancy. I had all of them done for both pregnancies with Emma and Madison. There was an interesting discussion on my pregnancy board this time around as to why they did the GBS test routinely now.

I wonder why they quit testing routinely in the first place?

I was pregnant in '96, and this was 4 years later.

The rubella titer was the first test I got when I found out I was pregnant, and they did it twice within six months of each other(I had a miscarriage before I had Gab).Plus I remember them testing after becaue the tech woke me up at 4:30 am to take blood. Two of my friends also were tested aftr becaus ethey needed to get rubella shots sinc they lost immunity when they were pregnant for some reason. However I do not think they tested for HIV if they did they didn't tell me,but they did take a ton of blood that first blood test.
