DYK Thread for September

**For those uncertain to what a DYK thread is......**

DYK stands for Did You Know or Do You Know

It is simply a chit chat thread where every thought is written in sentences and each sentences starts with the initials DYK---it is fun, entertaining and a great way to meet the board members

Below are some fun DYK blinkies--feel free to snag any if you like:

If I had gone to college I would have started at 17 like Alysha...I think that is kind of early personally and am glad that my kids will go when they are 18.

I think the pratice of waiting a year is more common place these days. However waiting the etra year does not mean your child is going to graduate at the top of the class just because they are older. We do have a disrict in our area that actually wanted the kids to turn 5 by May to start kdg. That would then make most of the kdg in class closer to 6,so developmentally the majority of the kdg class would be able to read,so they would score higher on standerized tests in the early years.Alot ofkidscan read by the end of kdg,but it should no be a requirment since some 5 year olds just don't get it yet, until the light bulb clicks.Gabby was reading before se went to kdg,but stillI don't think they should tell parents their kids are behind because they don't get reading at 5.I think that is one reason a lot of parents wait.A kid should not be made to feel like a failure at such an early age.I think homework is crazy in kdg,but most schools give in now and that is after a kid has to sit all day putting pencilto paper, then you are asking a 5 year old top come home and spend even more time on academics, even if it is only a short time.I really think that is why a lot of parents wait till their kids are 6 for kdg.In a perfect world kdg should be for 5 year olds and the activities taught should be more hands on,not pencil and paper, but it does not seem to be that way.

DYK Laura thanks for the compliments on the girls...Jamie is changing more now. She is growing taller...she got some cool blond streaks from time at the beach too.

DYK mom has to go for 10-15 min radiation every day during the wk. I'll know more after tomorrow which is when she's suppose to start treatment. Obviously she's worried she'll feel bad afterwards (nausea).

The summer birthdays yes, the fall birthdays are still only 18. I was talking about the ones that don't make the August 30th cut off date, not the summer ones held out until they are 6.

I'm tired this morning. David is out of town, and both boys thought that ment they had to sleep in my bed, so I did not sleep very well. I'm glad it's already Wednesday!

Laura i agree with you there. I ended up holding jackie back because she still needed some time. and her birthday is in Feburary. Some kids need the extra time.
