DYK Thread for September
**For those uncertain to what a DYK thread is......**
DYK stands for Did You Know or Do You Know
It is simply a chit chat thread where every thought is written in sentences and each sentences starts with the initials DYK---it is fun, entertaining and a great way to meet the board members
Below are some fun DYK blinkies--feel free to snag any if you like:

weather here is suppose to rain. we shall see great lightning storms the past few days but no rain.... other than that traffic sux as usual......lol
have a great day.
I always enjoy the open house too because I like to see if Gabby's take on her teachers is right.Last year on her first day of school she came home practically in tears because she thought her science teacher was the meanest man in the world, she was thrilled she only had him for 1/2 the year. However,it turns out he just came on really strict on the first few days of school because he wanted the kids to know that he would not put up with any joking or horseplay when they were in labs and working with flames and dangerous chemicals. After the first few days he ended up being one of Gabby's favorite teachers last year and she was sad when she switched science teachers in Jan.
I think Russian too when I hear the name Olga, probably because the only time I hear the name Olga is in movies or books and the Character is always Russian. That is funny about not having anyone to talk too.Gabby isn't too keen on her teachers this year, because she has to sit in alphbetical order and none of her friend sit near her;-)
I will say that when Gabby was in 5th grade and she got off the bus and she told me her science teacher was "nuts"I kind of agreed with her assesment. She was nice enough, just bery passionate about her subject and very very anal. She actually corrected and reprmanded a parent at the open house. They called his lisece plate number, because I guess he parked where he really shoul not have parked, but I am sure he could not find a parking place.Anyway he got up tpo go move his car and she ask him where he thought he was going. When he told her,she chastized him for parking in the worng spot.I called her one time because she told the kids to copy something word for word out of a book,I told Gabby teh teacher could not have said that because that was palgerism. However she cahstized me telling me she was teaching the kids to be through.Whatever...
I also think that in the end the person who learns how to cooperate and get along without people, will be just as successfulas the kids who are academically ahead in the early years.Gabby was in kdg six years ago and she was in a half day program.I am so glas she was.A friend of mine has a little biy in kdg and it is the same school Gabby went to the program is all day and I am shocked with the amt of time these poor kids are expected to sit at a desk. There are better ways to learn letter and numbers, without giving these poor kids worksheet after worksheet.Granted Gabby could finish the worksheets in mins, but then there are other kids who have no desire to even attempt these worksheets.
Now that Gabby is in 8th grade I don't worry so much about the amt of homework she gets, nor do I worry about her being stressed, but when she was in the younger grades I thought they put way to much pressure on these kids.Gabby was always a wquick learning and she was stressed to teh max,I can not imagine having a child who struggled with learning.
