DYK Thread for September

**For those uncertain to what a DYK thread is......**

DYK stands for Did You Know or Do You Know

It is simply a chit chat thread where every thought is written in sentences and each sentences starts with the initials DYK---it is fun, entertaining and a great way to meet the board members

Below are some fun DYK blinkies--feel free to snag any if you like:

Gabby's school seems pretty balanced.Gabby is the opposite of Matthew though. She is better at reading and she is an excellent writer. She really does not like to read, but she has no trouble with it.Gabby really does not like Math or Science ,but she isn't bad at either. She thinks she is though, just because she has to think more when it comes to these two subjects. You will find once kids reach the M/S level they seem to put a lot more emphasis on these two subjects(at least here they do)Gab's school does ability group the kids at the top into advanced classes and they base this on test scores and classroom grades,so a child that is gifted in math can take a math class that is more advanced. There are kids in Gabby's grade(8th)that are taking geometry instead of Alg 1(which most of the class takes.Gabby supposdly is in an advanced Alg class, but who know what that means. Then here are kids who are just in the advanced LA classes,so our school will place

Oh they have one of those teachers;-).I was going to say rice krispie bars always make a quick homemade snack and kids seem to love them.I personally hate the things, but they are always a hit with the kids.I never got the no junk food ever thing as long as it is in moderation. My SILis one of those no junk food people and her kids gourge on the stuff when they get the chance. My niece lives next to FILand she has her secret sugered cereal stash and junk food stash at his house,so she sneaks it anyway;-)Even BIL has his sweeter cerealover there, since they can only have stuff like shredded wheat without the sugar.

Matthew still says he misses elementary school, and he's gotten lost a few times which has freaked him out

Jenna adores school, and Justin just takes everything in stride

He's very easy-going, like his dad

Tessa says she likes school if you ask her, but does not seem overly thrilled. But then, she has SM.

I was like Gabby--good in writing/reading, and not so good in math/science

Matthew inherited Michael's math skills

I alsothink that in most M/S they are alot stricter than they are in elem school.Probably with good reason, but it freaks the better behaved kids out when they first start. After a few years they just get used to the speeches, which in most cases are kind of useless since the kids who are going o behave do and the kids who usually don't are not freaked out by the scare tatic speeches.Gabby was listening to President Obmas speech with me and her one comment was our principalsaid the same thing on the first day of school only he was way meaner about it.;-)BTW Gabby says she still misses elem school at times. No more warm and fuzzy teachers;-)It is a shame they have to grow up!

Matthew is EXTREMELY well-behaved in school

He's a teacher's dream: Quiet and cooperative

Home is another story, LOL

This has been a hectic and stessful week for me, and I'm glad tomorrow is Friday

However, Saturday we are taking Tessa, Jenna and their cousin Julia and neighbor/friend to the American Girl Doll place in NYC for lunch to celebrate their birthday

The boys are going to their cousins' house

Thank goodness Michael is willing to go to AG, because I am not too confident going in to the city alone with 4 little girls

I guess he'll put up with dolls and girlie luncheons for his little princesses ;)

A little cake once in awhile isn't going to hurt. Adam's football team has gotten treats for birthdays at least twice a week, it's getting kind of ridiculous.

We went to the AG store/bistro in Dallas twice. YES, Mike came, too!! In fact, he loves their chicken...the spice on it is awesome.

I had my first of two formal observations today. It went great!! I was so happy. It was a great lesson and one that I enjoy and engages the students well.

Came home and did my lesson plans for next week and all my materials for next week. This weekend I do need to work on updating my sub folder, though. It still has last year's info in it...eek! (and I've already had 2 subs..double eek!)
