I like smaller class sizes but I would consider 15 a smaller class size. From K-4 Gabby only had 15/16 kids in her classes and there were only 32 kids at her grade level.I thought that was a nice start for her.Whenshe went to m/s they ability grouped so she ended up with the same 25-35 kids all through m/s.I really do think the average student gets short changed as far as education goes.I have always felt my voice was heard but Gabby is on of the brighter kids in her class,as are the other kids she was in class with in m/s.The school seems to want to do everything to work with us.However,Gabby's friends who fall in the middle have parents who complain about the school constantly and they can never get any satisfaction. That is when smaller class size would help.

dyk i don't know that it was really about class size.. it was more the atmosphere of the whole school.. when you only have 10 kids to have recess with, you learn to make friends with everyone because everyone played the games together.. and i liked the set up of having the school split into two rooms where the younger kids could listen in on the older students classes

dyk only having 2 teachers made it easy for them to prepare you for the next grade because they knew exactly what and how they were going to be teaching you the next year.. and the 2 teachers had been working together for so long that everyone knew what was going on..

dyk i was the only one in my class from 3-5th grade, and i got to learn at my own pace..

dyk when i switched schools for 6th grade, if you started falling behind, you had the extra one on one time with the teacher to catch up.. and also if there's only 4 other students, i think you push harder to keep up with them

dyk in jr high, there were so many kids in my class, i didn't know exactly where they were with learning something new.. but when there were only 5 of us, i knew who knew what, and i didn't want them to "pass me up" so to speak.

dyk the biggest downfall of growing up with so few kids at school was that i was completely overwhelmed once i hit jr high, and had 30 kids in the same room for every class.. i found it harder to get close to them.. there were just so many! so socially it may have put me a little behind, but academically i could have stomped on any of them :)

dyk i liked being the only one in my grade though. i got all the attention while i was at the table for class... i didn't have to wait for other people to ask questions

dyk on the other hand, all the questions she asked, i had to answer.. there was no one else to take the pressure off.. it was all me.. i think i learned more because of it.

dyk I agree smaller can be better but to a degree . . . ie a classroom of 2 wouldn't be ideal

dyk I realize its a moot argument for public schools as states set class size levels by grade

dyk i also think the tiny schools had the advantage of all the familys of the students knowing each other, and the teachers really got the chance to know each and every student and their families

dyk in jr high and high school, i often felt like the teachers didn't know who i was, or what i was about.. other than being the A student.. ya know? when you teach 300 students a day, you really can't know them all on a personal basis?

dyk the school we (sorta) have picked out for chris isn't one of the larger ones, it's just a lot bigger than what i'm used to dealing with.. for grade school years anyway

dyk i miss parent teacher conferences with brenna's grade school teacher.. they were a lot more informative because she knew everything about brenna.. she had more to say, and more information to offer..

dyk her middle school conferences are a scheduled 10 minutes.. and it's mostly like "this is her grade".. "nice to meet you".. they fit all her teachers for her core classes into that 10 minutes.

dyk in grade school the teacher knew everything about all the classes, and could compare her strengths and weaknesses.. it was just a lot more helpful than what i am getting from her teachers in middle school.

dyk i don't have any experiences with the grade schools chris will go to, and i don't know how theyre even set up other than each grade has 2-3 rooms of students.

dyk i know it will be alright.. plenty of kids have gone through the public school system and excelled.. it's just going to be a significant change from what i'm used to dealing with.

dyk and i'm a little sad that chris won't get a chance to have the kind of environment that my siblings and I, and Brenna got to experience.

dyk I'm also very bad with change, so it affects me on other levels as well.

dyk brenna's slept at mom's since school started.. except for a couple nights of homework when her and my mom were fighting about it.. she comes home, does it, gets her attitude in check, and then goes back at bedtime.. that's happened twice
