**For those uncertain to what a DYK thread is......**

DYK stands for Did You Know or Do You Know

It is simply a chit chat thread where every thought is written in sentences and each sentences starts with the initials DYK---it is fun, entertaining and a great way to meet the board members.

DYK the idiot award of the day goes to yours truly! I looked at airline tickets this morning for the Oregon trip, waited til this afternoon to buy them and the price went up $70! sigh... Travelocity still has it for the original price, wondering if I should go with that or not.

My brother booked it through his firm travel agent, it still ended up being $100 more than what we looked at late last week, so I'm upset with myself for waiting. Yes, the trip is at hte end of October, so still 6 weeks out, but still. There must be something else going on that weekend for all the flights to all of a sudden disappear like they did.

It very well could be homecoming, I am sure they probably have that all planned in advance. It's not the prospective student preview weekend, that's 2 weekends earlier, we just got a postcard in the mail for that. It maybe recruiting for all prospective athletes, I don't know. Guess we'll find out when we get there. I am looking forward to it! I am going to bring home a bunch of beautiful fall leaves to do a project with the girls.

When Kristen went to James Madison last year for her music audition- it was the same day as their prospective student day.  Which was also on President's day- so none of the high school kids would miss school.  I don't remember if the kids looking to get into sports had a separate day to talk/ interview or not.

The scholarship competition she had for Lynchburg was on a Friday- but it's a much smaller school than JMU. On that day, they also had separate interviews/ groups for kids looking to get into sports.  They don't have a football team, but from what Kristen's told me their field hockey team is pretty good.  And my neighbor's daughter-in-law played on a softball team at Virginia Weslyan and she said they played Lynchburg sometimes too.

East Carolina had their open house/ auditions for music students on a Saturday.  There were 3 different dates she could choose, and I think they were all Saturdays.

Have fun.  I'm assuming it's just you and Jordyn going?  It was kind of a pain to drive 1000+ miles over the span of 3 weeks- but I have to admit it was so much fun doing that with Kristen :smileyhappy:

I just looked at their football schedule to see if homecoming was referenced, but it wasn't. They play stanford 3 weeks later, I wish it was the weekend we were there as one of Jordyn's best friends from MIchigan she did gymnastics with is a freshman on the Stanford cheerleading team and it would have been cool if they had been there at the same time and been able to see each other! They have tickets for us to see the football game while we are there, they are playing Colorado that weekend which I think will be cool.

Yes Cheryl, it'll be just her and I. It'll be the first time in a long time we've spent much one on one time together and I am really looking forward to it. I'm a bit stressed about the little girls and DH for that weekend, especially not knowing business wise how busy he will be, what his employee will be able to handle for him, and having "on call" babysitters arranged. I had tried to arrange for my parents, or at least my mom, to be in town that weekend to help out, but she wasn't able to. I am sure it'll all work out and I am worrying for nothing, but you know...

Ahh, that does explain it!  I just put homecoming into Oregon's search engine and yep, homecoming is the weekend we are there!  Wow, that will be an interesting thing to experience, especially for me, the one who never lived at college!

They booked my hotel room already, at least that's what the coach's email said, so it'll be interesting to see what hotel I end up at also since its going to be packed that weekend. So glad I don't have to pay for the hotel room also as they specifically put on their website that prices are much higher because of homecoming weekend. All I am hoping for is continental breakfast to keep my food costs down. LOL!

Ya, we always try and make sure we stay somewhere with a free continental breakfast when we are doing cheerleading overnights, especially with the little girls, it gets so expensive! I think I'll be better prepared this coming year and will be better about packing things like yogurts and stuff to help with that. I am not a huge breakfast eater to begin with, so for me it may not make a huge difference, but we'll see. Honestly, if I can find myself a bagel shop, I know I have mostly given up carbs and breads, but I will eat salt bagels all weekend long if its possible! LOL!

None of the schools Kristen looked at paid for a hotel room :smileytongue:

But then again- with the very generous scholarships she has right now- $150 for a hotel room for a night is a bargain :smileyhappy:

We had to pay even for that 1 night that we went there for orientation.  I had no choice- it was either stay there or drive 2 round trips there in 24 hours.  It would have been nice if dh and I could have gone.  But it was a week after graduation, and dh had already taken off a week and a half due to all of the "stuff" that went on here over graduation.
