I didn't know his connection with Carl Hiaasen, but I knew the other stuff. He was a gifted reading student, and the last gifted reading teacher at our school did an author study of him with her students, so that's how I found out all that.
I have Eragon on my shelf, but never read it. I really liked the movie and I've been told the book is way better (duh!)..lol.
our district doesn't have many after-school clubs in elementary & middle schools. I won't say NONE, because she was in Math Olympiads which was after-school last year.
Don't you just love the confusing plans they make?It is beyond annoying some days.Gabby just called and ask if I could pick her up at 11:45 instead of 11:30.One of the mos was crazy enough to have a cast party at her house tonight for up to 77 kids, she is a braver soul than me.I told her no later. These late nights are too much for me.
it has to do with busing--I think nearly every elementary school (and all middle schools that have 5th grade, ours being one now) is Title I due to high free & reduced lunch rates. If we're a low-income school, we're supposed to provide busing for any school-related thing....clubs being school-related.
Don't know how they got around that with Math Olympiads, but it was by invitation only, which was the Advanced scores on 4th grade LEAP in math, which tends to (sadly) also be students who are not on free lunch.
DYK ok everyone is upstairs getting ready for bed...I've brushed my teeth, DH is brushing his now & Rach is now in the bathroom after all of Jamie's friends have used the bathroom. I can hear Jamie & her friends talking in her room down the hall. Might have to close our bedroom door tonight lol.
DYK its possible for even inner city kids to excel academically...have u seen the movie Stand & Deliver? Where the LA inner city kids learn calculus & take the AP tests successfully for it?

Yes this is recent.
She has had a lot of health problems in the past.
I'll try to sum it up as simply as possible, lol.
She has problems walking, her legs just don't move when they are supposed to.
