Everyone busy reading today?

We stopped at ToysRUs this morning and Kristen used her g/c she got for her birthday to buy the new Harry Potter book. I read the first two chapters out loud and was bugging her to read and she didn't want to do it out loud so claimed she would read silently. I said fine, I'll catch up but she hates when I read ahead. She claimed she was only going to read a couple of pages but ..... 45 min later she's still at it. LOL Once she tuckers out I'll catch up with her. I refuse to drag this thing out for a week, I NEED to know what happens. :-)

I'm on Chapter 14. Kristen didn't want to read out loud to me and I said I was not reading 600+ pages out loud so she read some, then I read some, then she read some. She doesn't want me to get too far ahead of her. So we finished Chapter 10 last night and I read to chapter 15 this morning and now she's awake and will catch up with me.

This is a child who hates reading, loves books and stories but not reading. What a dichotomy. But yesterday she said she was only going to read 2 pages to herself, that was it. 3 chapters later she finally stopped. And last night I had to force her to stop at 11:15. :-) I'm so happy. Wish she would do this all the time.

Not sure we'll finish it today but I'll admit I cheated and read some of the ending so I know partly how it ends, so I can wait a couple of days to get all the details.

Yup, I'm maybe 8 chapters in at this point but I've already read the epilogue (yes, this is something I typically do and no I won't spoil it for anyone who hasnt read it)

Hey all you Harry Potter fans! I really wished I liked Harry Potter, but I didn't get in on it in the beginning and now it is coming to an end (or so they say...) I really want to learn to like him. We have the first book in softcover downstairs somewhere - I think Tiff read it the year before she passed away. Should I start by trying to read that? Or see the movies or what? I feel left out because everyone is on this bandwagon right now, and I am left behind! Any help or advice on HP will be greatly appreciated! TIA!

I hope that J.K.Rowling continues to write, preferably another series, because this is the case with MANY children!

But she's already richer than the Queen...lol.

I haven't read any of them either and I have the first 6 books.

I did feel some regret last week though because this would've been the last chance to "get the book brand-new and start reading it"...but you can't read the 7th book first...lol. Especially when I've only seen 3 movies!

I would suggest you start at the beginning otherwise you will be lost by the time you get further in. The first movie is pretty much an exact transcription of the first book but after that the books start to get fatter and fatter and they have to leave lots of stuff out of the movies. Most of the stuff left out is the funny stuff I find as it doesn't really affect the plot but is fun to read about life in the wizarding world.

Its never too late to start. I think of it like the Lord of the Rings series. No one would ever say "Don't bother reading it now, you missed it when it came out." A good story is a good story and will last forever. Granted you won't get some of the hype surrounding the last book, but you will get caught up in the story. The first book is probably the most "child-like" but after that they get more and more sophisticated and I would not say that this book is a kids book. It happens to be the continuation of a story of a kid but the content is definitely more mature.

I haven't read any of them, either. We have all the books (except the new one that just came out). My daughter read all but the one before this new book, and thought it was boring and didn't finish it. My son and I just got into a few pages in the first book and didn't care for it.

But I've seen all the movies.

The books are much better than the movies. Except for the 1st movie, as was said it's almost an exact transcript of the book.

I've read ch's 1-5. So far, it's pretty good. Kind of sad though that this is her last one.
