Well you are getting a 2nd opinion from a dr you know so maybe her eyes will be ok.She might be able to get contacts.A lot of Gab's friends got them at 11 and 12,it all depends on the dr weather or not her will let younger kids get them.It would also depend on Nik's maturity and whether or not she is ready to take care of them.Good Luck at the eye drs.Has Nik been complaining about not being able to see?My niece does not have glasses but she has some kind of theaphy eachh week for her eyes. She is 11.Not sure what it is,but she was faking being able to read so they took her to an eye dr and she gets some kind of eye exercises each week(I really don't know what since they are kind of closed mouth about it and they were kind of annoyed because Gabby kept saying D really could not read for years and they finally did something when she was 10,so all I know is she goes tp have something done with her eyes weekly). However Nik can read,so that really isn't the issue with her.
Its been frustating to say the least. The eye dr. she got her last glasses from wanted to change the script but didn't feel comfortable w/out the specialist okaying it. The specialists discharged her 3 yrs. ago so couldn't figure out why the eye dr. would be needing him, he then referred her to someone else to get the glasses. The new dr. wants her to get eye exercises. her reading is fine we just need new glasses because her head out grew the old ones. Still have no new glasses, haven't a clue what the script should be because the 1st dr. & 2nd. didn't agree but the 2nd. was only interested in eye exercises. So in comes the dr. from when she was 2 since we're going home for xmas anyway & insurance isn't going to cover this after the 1st eye exam so at this point it doesn't matter what we pay cause Nik needs glasses that fit.
Btw, I've heard from other parents that those eye exercises don't work. At $1200.00 I would expect them to. Your niece may not get anywhere because of the exercises they may have tried a tutor & it would have been alot less money. Does she wear glasses? I also read this is the new thing w/kids eyes. Eye exercises. More money for the drs.
I had eye exercises as a kid. I have convergence insufficiency or something like that. My eyes are both lazy and leads to seeing double, misjudging etc. They did work for me but only when I didn't cheat and kept them up after the appt series had finished. I also have glasses but mine are cut to help my eyes converge. I don't wear them as I could never get used to where they ended and that was making me far less able to do things.
Nik doesn't have that problem she does have 1 eye that was turning in so that was why she got glasses when she was about 3. It would turn in when she was reading or looking intently at something. I'm so confused because this is the 1st time it been mentioned & up until 3 yrs. ago when we moved here to Maine she was seeing an eye specialist. Wouldn't he have noticed in all these yrs.? Plus she told us Nik was farsighted & we've always been told she had good vision except got that eye needing correction from turning in. It never turns in when she doesn't have her glasses on & she always needs to be reminded to put them on in the morning because she sees fine w/out them. One would think a kid who has been wearing glasses since she was about 3 would remember.
I'm very happy we got an appt. w/the specialist down in RI she saw when she was a baby, he was excellent & maybe we'll get some answers & new glasses that fit her which was out intent.
Your one of many who have told me that those eye exercises don't work all that well so I don't think I'll be spending $1200.00 on that. Dh said he remebers the specialist in FL telling us to never do that if anyone suggested it because they don't work.
I'll keep everyone updated on what happens at the dr. when we go at xmas. Thank You for the imput.
Dd will definitely most likely
