Cheryl, Jordyn was just telling me last night that there is this girl in her capstone (independant study) class that was talking yesterday about how she had gotten about 6 acceptance letters from her 12 schools she applied to, but the rest don't make decisions until April. And that she got a $40,000 scholarship to Michigan, but she really was waiting on a decision from Yale first. I asked Jordyn if she was super smart and she said, well, she's smart yes, but she's also "a legacy" at Yale, both her parents went there. When Jordyn said ya, but you got $40,000 from Michigan and the girl said ya, but i want to go to an Ivy League school, even if I have to take out student loans and stuff and then pay them back later. I told Jordyn, those are the parents that didn't bother to prepare their kid well, that the kid wouldn't even understand that taking out student loans to go to an Ivy league school, for a photography and business major, means possibly amazing amounts of student loans after the fact and that doesn't even guarentee you'll have a good paying job to pay back those loans! We had a good discussion again about it all and how much I don't want her to have to do all those student loans. Heck, my brother has taken out ones just for his last year of bachelor's and entire master's and when they kick in, because of the interest rate on them, he'll be making payments of $750 a month for the next 10 years. Yes, likely he'll be making $60-70k right off the bat, but still, its a house payment each month, on top of his house payment!
