A few questions about the board...
14
Thu, 07-20-2006 - 12:06am

I won't be here for a few months (ds will be 10 in November - how did that happen btw) but decided to pop in and check it out. It looks like you all have lots of fun!!! I also see respect and caring... My big question is this... My ds seems sooo far from the 14 year olds I know. Does it work to have this broad an age range on the same board? In some ways he'd fit right in because he's very intellectually mature for his age. Emotionally, he seems sooo young compared to the other 11 and 12 year olds I know.

Please know my question is not a critism of the board. I'm just trying to figure out if this is where we belong...

Thanks!! This looks like a great place to be!!!

Oh, you'll fit right in. My tween will be 12 next month, maturity wise she's a 10.5 year old. Her friends are so much more mature than she is. Please jump in and make yourself at home.

Not everyone here is 14--heck, MOST of the people here have kids younger than that.

Hi, welcome to the board! I have an 11 year old and a 9 year old and at one point when I first joined this group I was using the board more for my youngest. I'm sure that someone on this board will be able to answer any question you have, especially one of the mom's named Tam...she's so resourceful. If she doesn't know the answer, she finds out asap!

We have a lot of fun, and since you have a 14 yo it would be great for those of us with younger kids to learn from you as well! Hope you come back!

Thanks everyone!!! I was truly overwhelmed by the response to my post. I apologize for not responding sooner. You made me feel very welcome and at home here. Things have been a little rough here lately. Nothing tragic but when putting things together, they all add up to stress. Today is dh's last day at a large, stable medical device company to be part of a start up business. I a SAHM and the whole thing makes me nervous. Not only is our income less stable, so is our insurance and all the other things that go with being an employee. On top of this, my cousins are about to drive my father into personal bankruptcy because they feel he owes them (as his brother's decendents) The rest of a debt to his brother. My father bought his brother out of a business (using a loan the business secured that my father had to make personal guarantees on) and the resulting loan drove the business to bankruptcy though my father worked his tail off keeping the business afloat for 20 years. My cousins are all 35 or younger and got 1 million dollars in life insurance between three of them when my uncle died. They don't need the money and their father put my dad in this position in the first place. Now they want to collect the rest of the $ and could force my father into bankruptcy to collect. My father has never done anything but work hard to keep the factory going and pay the bills and meet payroll so the employees had a job, could put food on the table, and send their kids to college. I could go on and on but it makes me sad and angry. Our washing machine is broken and between parts and schedules it may not be fixed until tomorrow. It's been all I can do to get the kids to camps and dinner on the table. I just need calm and routine right now and it just isn't coming. I'm doing my best but with the kids home clamoring for the pool, time outside, and other stuff, it just isn't working. I know I need to set the rules but I'd like to cut them some slack because it's summer.

Thanks for listening. I didn't expect all of this to come out but I feel better now that it has. Lots of things are going well. The things that aren't are just weighing heavy. I'll be fine once I pick myself up and get things rolling again.
