I have a ton of shopping to do today.  I have major grocery shopping and a Target run to do.  I'm hoping I can find a gluten/ dairy free mix for cupcakes and frosting. I also want to go pick up gift cards from a local bookstore for the moms who led the boys literature group.  Zeph will write thank you notes this weekend to go along wiht the gift cards.  Gamestop is on my list too to pick up Minecraft for Z. as a gift.   If there is time I'd like to do some clothes shopping for me and for Z and maybe a stop at the nursery to see if they have more of that hanging basket I fell in love with.

While I am gone, DH will hopefully vacuum and clean up his work computers that are taking over half of the downstairs.  Zeph has 2 history lessons and  the other half of the downstairs to clean.  He is having a friend over this afternoon and there is no where to play since every inch is covered with Legos or blocks.  After dinner I'll take Zeph and his friend to breakdance class.

Hoping to get some laundry done and also get Zeph's gifts wrapped while the boys are playing.

I had my hair done yesterday after a 6 mont hiatus form any cut or color. It looks movie star awesome!  The color is a nice rich dark brown.  Hoping it will stay that way and not turn that reddish brown it usually does.    Typically I keep it all one length right above my shoulders.   He cut long layers all over and we kept it below shoulder length. He had a ton of hair to work with.  He also brough Z's shaggy head under control pleasing me while still keeping the length pleasing Z.

My mom and grandma are coming tomorrow for a Mother's Day luncheon.  I do not know what I am making.   Hoping the grocery store will inspire me:)   They are both getting flowering plants that I will pick up today. Tomorrow morning will be a fmaily cleaning frenzy to prepare for the visit.

Sunday we don't have plans because my husband is an ass. He never does squat for Mother's Day despite past arguments, tears, and my calmiy explaining why he should make a fuss.   I've tried all tactics and he just does not get it.  Zeph and I will do something together.  I'm thinking a movie and PF Changs if I can get a reservation.  I'd also like to take a walk with my pups weather permitting.

Busy weekend for us, but I am looking forward to it!  Laughing  Happy Mother's day to everyone in advance!!

Today, I have a telephone conference at noon.  Tonight, I need to pick up Madison and I am meeting DH and Emma at the YMCA to drop the girls off for parent's night out.  Then DH and I are going over to a army buddy's house to have dinner with him and his wife.  It'll be an early evening, we have to have the kids picked up by 8, then I'll go home and watch the hockey game.  Jordyn is working tonight, I assume she'll be home right aftwards instead of going out with the BF since she saw a 10 p.m. showing of the Great Gatsby last night and will be tired, but we'll see.

Tomorrow, I need to go early and get the inspection done on my car finally.  jordyn needs to also, but she is leaving early to head up to a curriculum studying party to learn all her curriculum for her summer job.  She'll be gone all day.  She was supposed to babysit for DH and I in the evenings, but she found a replacement sitter.  DH and I are going out to dinner and a movie for our annivesary.  I'll need to get laundry and some cleaning done.

Sunday, I have no idea, all I know is I told Jordyn she was in charge of breakfast and DH is in charge of dinner.  I am planning on relaxing all day, and maybe a bit of shopping in the afternoon.

Have a great weekend!!!

Heather, 2 things.  My husband is the same way, even though he knows my love language is gifts!  I have finally given up, if the kids do something great, and Jordyn has slacked the last few years and it has upset me.  But i basically get myself something now and save myself some tears.  However, I did instruct DH that he was in charge of dinner, period, I make the meals 95% of the time, he can do it this one day and I gave him a week's notice.

Second, GF cupcakes.  Jordyn's BFF in Michigan has celiacs and her mom gave me this advice for great cupcakes:

"I use the betty crocker gf chocolate cake mix. I use buttermilk for 1/2 the liquid and I beat all the liquids together before adding the dry. ANd then beat it on high for 2 minutes. They are light and fluffy and not crumbly at all. ANd I like a homemade buttercream, but the kids like storebought frosting."

No help on the GF frosting, especially at a regular grocery store, there are some at the health food stores but I haven't tried any.  I am sure you can google some though, I know a ton of good GF websites if you need any help, but this one is a really good one for recipes:

The cupcakes and frosting need to be gluten and dairy free.  One of Q's good friends is on a GF/DF diet.  We are having a potluck of sorts on Monday for the last Literature Group and all the other moms are bringing things he can't have.  I said I would bring something he could have so he has at least two options.  Zeph's brithday is next week so I thought cupcakes would be a good choice.  I am hoping Whole Foods has a mix and frosting.  I have made chocolate chip pumpkin bread (he could have)  that I could turn into muffins or do banana chocolate chip muffins.

As far as DH goes, Zeph gets frustrated becasue DH doesn't plan to take Zeph shopping and then Zeph feels he let me down because he knows this is an important day for me. Zeph and I will spend the day together and I like that.  I just wish DH would do something without me having to tell him.  I am an excellent mom and it would be nice for DH to acknowledge how phenomonally I am doing in my part of raising our child.

I can understand that from your point of view! DH tells me often I am a great mom, and while I suppose that should be enough, being shown it is also important IMO. I can see why Zeph would get frustrated by it. Another good website is www.glutenfreehappytummy.com It has tons of recipes, they are a mix of gluten free, dairy free, vegan, egg free, etc.

edited to add, you could also use coconut milk in the cupcake mix instead of buttermilk.  That's what we did for the betty crocker vanilla cupcakes because I forgot to buy buttermilk.  they were slightly dry, but still very good!  You can also make a whipped cream frosting with coconut milk I think.

And my edit didn't take, but here is a coconut oil frosting half way down the page:

And here is a strawberry cupcake recipe, but you can also substitute in coconut or almond milk in the better crocker cake mix for cupcakes, we did it with the vanilla ones, and while they were slightly dry, they still tasted very good!

Hi all, checking in a day late. It was a busy Friday at work and trying to keep updated on my sister. After work, I went food shopping. Kids had regular school days and then Kayleigh had a study date with a friend to get ready for their APs

Today was supposed to be the scout bike hike but I'm pretty sure that'll be called due to weather.  Later, Ian is going to a friend's birthday party.  Kayleigh is face painting at a 4H event this morning and working her first shift at her new job during the afternoon. I have to do laundry, but other than that, I hope to have a relaxing day, do some reading, give myself a mani and pedi, stuff like that.

Tomorrow we will be going to my sister's for her fabulous annual Mothers Day pizza party

Thank you for the links.  I saved them for a later date.  Thankfully, Whole Foods had beautiful vegan /gluten free cupcakes.  I bought two of those not knowing what flavor he would like.  I bought their regular cupcakes for the other kids. It was the easiest option.  Their cupcakes are delicious!

Happy Mothers Day!  I haven't been here since Wednesday. I woke up Thursday so sick.  I didn't go into work and slept all day and drank water when I awake. I was trying to get better quick since Tim was taking me on a unknown overnighter. He surprised me where our destination was.  So Friday he took me to Memphis!  I really don't like Memphis now that I have been there.  We went and watched the duck parade at the Peabody Hotel.  Ate some nasty BBQ'd ribs.  I don't like ribs cooked the Memphis way. Yuck. It started raining so we want back to out hotel for a bit, until it stopped. We ended up on Beale St and it was similar to Nashville except they block the street off in Memphis.  They need to do that in Nashville.

On Saturday we toured Graceland.  I loved it.  I always wanted to go, took tons of pictures.  Oh how I miss his music.  I love Elvis' voice. We were there for about 4 hours. It was fun and I really enjoyed myself. I shopped and got a few souvenirs. We arrived home right at dinner time so we brought pizza home to the kids.   Later, Tim took the Mothers Day shopping. Katie chose to make me a card and a pretty paper flower. I loved it.  I am taking the flower to work.

Today Tim ended up getting breakfast at McDonalds cause I clogged up the garbage disposal again last night.  So he had to fix it thmorning and it took so long that he just bought it.  It was good.  I love their hash round.  Yum!  He made a rib lunch for mom and I. Baked potatoes and baked beans. They were so good!  I took my mom to Starbucks for a coffee. We are watching Anne of Green Gables. Love this movie. This series. We are having a quiet evening.
