I will spend the weekend doing housework and preparing for our trip.  Zpeh will spend it studying and doing schoolwork, DH will be fretting over money and doing chores.  Aren't we an exciting bunch?  This weeknd is suppose to be in the 60s and rainy...

Today I am taking Z for a shopping trip to find some shorts that fit.  Some grocery shopping and then home for school and his last breakdance class.  DH and I have to pay bills tonight and come to terms with some financial stuff.  I also need to book hotels for next week.  Atlanta is covered, but not our other stays.

No ideas on meals-absolutely uninspired...

Today is the girls 13th birthday.  It's been good so far.  We got up and out the door by 9:30.  I bought them breakfast and then we went to open up their checking accounts at our CU.  They will start learning to budget and keep track of their money.  While we were gone my mom came and picked up their cakes to bring to the pizza place.  We are surprising them with a few friens meeting them their.  After pizza and cake I am sure they will go off to shop.  We did presents at lunch time so we didin't have to bring them to the pizza place.  Tim will be picking up the balloons.  They got money, itunes gift cards, their rings they LOVE, Natalie got Katie an awesome british license plate With her fave band name on it and all their names. More stuff but no need to list it off.  LOL  We are watching MTV music videos.  Ugh.  Their choice.

Tomorrow I think Tim plans to mow and I cleaning the house completely.  I am tired of the way it is and no one does anything to make it better but me.  Tired of that.

Sunday, no idea.  I know we are doing a lot of cooking out.  I laid out steaks for dinner tomorrow night.

Happy Birthday x2!  Hope they ahd a great day and were surprised by the party!

We're struggling with teaching financial resposibility.  Part of it is that Zeph never has money -we've stopped allowances.  Other than around his brithday and the holidays he has no money coming in.  While he has his savings account-- its for deposits only.  How are your girls getting money to learn to budget?   If it is allowence, can I ask how much.  We were giving $10 a week with 20% going to savings 5% going to a charity of his chosing. That gave him $30 a month to budget, but it was all going to Lego and DH and  decided that the $30 would be better spent going into savings so we stopped allowance.  We pay for all clothes, activities and when he goes out with friends, the inviting parent pays.  It's not like he needs money,  but i feel like he should know how to use it before he needs it.

A couple of questions about a checking account.  Who will accept checks from them at age 13?  Do they have state ids if a photo is asked for?  (I seldom write checks, but when I do at a store, they always ask for photo id). Are they paying for the checks?   I'm not trying to be nosey, hoping something you say will resonate with me.

Hi everyone. Friday was a regular work day for me. Ian returned to school after his Washington DC trip.  Kayleigh had a regular school day, things are winding down for her.

Ian and Dh were supposed to be scout camping this weekend but that was cancelled due to terrible weather. Limited scout activities through the weekend

Friday, I went out for a fabulous dinner with my sister. I had escargot, duck and a chocolate dessert with pistachio cream YUMMYY!!! Kayleigh worked last night

Today, food shopping, then a mostly relaxing afternoon and short nap. Dh and Ian met up with a group of scouts to work on Automotive merit badge, and then the whole group went to see the new Star Trek movie. Kayeigh is working 3-9

Tomorrow, I think Kayeigh is working again, and shopping for a graduation dress.  Ian, Dan and I are going to a bbq after the scout hike. HOpefully the weather will improve.

No real plans for Monday.  I may do some shopping for Kayleigh's graduation party, can't believe it's in just four weeks!

They get about 5 free checks from the CU.  But, they don't use checks.  I still have my son's checks and he's had his account for over 2 years now he has yet to write one.  I think the closer we get to 18 I will put money into his account when things need to be paid for for school and let him write the check that is needed.  I can transfer money from our account into theirs online.  They get debit cards that they will use for these accounts.  They all get $20 every two weeks, like a payday and they are connected to chores.  They have a set amount of chores that HAVE to be done by noon on Saturday if they aren't they don't get allowance that week.  They also have chores they do throughout the week and if they give me a hard time they are in jeopardy of losing thier allowance for that week.  Our Cu has a special checking account for kids 13 - 18 yrs old and at 18 it converts to a normal checking account.  So they are limited on what they can do with thier accounts and writing checks is one of them.  Just not neccssary at this age.  If an ID is needed I am usually right there and they accpt my ID.  I tell them they are under age and have no ID and show mine that seems to accepted.  Never had a problem with that.  At 15, Matthew now has his own ID so for 2 years I have to be with them to use the card in case it can't be used like a debit with the pin number and it has to be used like a credit card.  But, most places you can just put it in like a debit card and enter your pin number.
