Frustrated swimsuit shopper

How many of you moms of preteen girls are frustrated with the swimsuit companies?! My daughter is finishing 6th grade and, taking after her mom, she's tall, so has grown out of her size 16 swimsuit. I went online to several websites, looking for a nice MODEST swimsuit for my 12-year-old and could not find anything with that description!! She is just starting to develop and of course self-conscious about her body. The junior sizes seem to all be designed to start a summer romance with whomever comes along. I finally decided to order a 16plus swimsuit from Landsend, hoping it won't be baggy on her, because her body is definitely not "plus" size (not that I'm putting down children that are), but she needs a suit that fits her long torso. She's worried that if we order a tankini that it will show her belly, which she doesn't want. We live in West Africa so she can't try swimsuits on, we just have to order and hope we find one that fits. I was also disappointed that LandsEnd no longer carries a long torso tankini for women(I have two from previous seasons). Mine were getting worn out and I was ready for a new one. Finally had to settle for a long torso tank. Any other Mom's in my situation?

My dd (12) likes swim suits that she can really swim and dive in (and which are one-piece), so for the past couple of years she's picked out her swimsuit at sporting good stores. We've found a wonderful assortment of swimsuits (and other sportwear) in both children and adult sizes.

Hi! I used to be a swimmer when I was young (oh, so long ago...), and was tall for my age with a very long torso. Speedo brand suits used to offer a "long" size, which is what I always got for racing, etc. It fit really well - long enough without being 'baggy', and they offered cute styles, too. Not sure if they still do, but you could look online and then maybe find out what stores in your area offer them. Good luck!

We did that 2 days ago. Fun, fun, fun NOT!
Dd is 13. She's really petite, so she can still fit into a size 12/ 14 suit. Wanting to wear those though is another story. We found suits that were just TOO "little kid". 1 that we found had a plunging neckline (and it was a 12!). Dd said (and I was so proud of her) "I'm not comfortable with this one".
There was a cute one in the Jr. section, a tankini. But, it was too big up top. I was about to throw in the towel and make her look at a speedo racing suit- when she finally found a tankini in the kids' section that didn't look "babyish".
I have to admit, most of the suits I found in the jr section were 2 piece. Not that my child couldn't wear one of those. In fact, she'd look real cute in it b/c she's so little. But do I WANT my 13 year old wearing what comes down to 2 scraps of fabric that just cover the boobs and a little of the butt so she looks like she's 13 going on 21?
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope the one you've ordered fits.
Sorry for the frustration!

Land's End still has some long torso Tankini's, was there a certain style you preferred?
Oh my, this was us last year when Kayleigh was turning 11.
