We're back online! Cable came on about an hour ago...we were watching fuzzy local news, then all of a sudden it was clear and was a cable channel. I'm shocked that Cox was out there working...I thought they'd at least wait until some people had electricity! 95% of the customers of our electric company is still without power! But, yet I have power back (22 hours without) and cable now.
Thank you ALL for your prayers and positive thoughts! As Lisa mentioned, we had wind gusts up to 91 mph in the Baton Rouge area...Betsy ('65) had 92mph, but Andrew & Katrina didn't even come close to that! Sustained winds of 61 mph...Betsy had 58mph, so this was the worst hurricane to ever hit the Baton Rouge area. My tree in my front yard was literally turned sideways during the wind, but you'd never know it now.
I was completely pissed off last night at a national news show that was in New Orleans and stated, "To LOUISIANA residents, Gustav was no Katrina!" OKAY...you can say that about New Orleans, but to most of south central Louisiana...that was totally NOT the case.
Glad you guys are safe.Alos glad you have power, although if 95% of people are witut I'm guessing yours may be sporatic for awhile.Do you have a generator?I am guessing you are off school for the rest of the week?
Mike says we probably got power restored quickly because we are near a fire station. And Cox said they were going to be right behind power trucks, so that's why we got that restored.
I just heard that the hurricane is not getting a lot of national media coverage. Like everything BESIDES New Orleans for Katrina (like where Adrianne lives and the St. Tammany area and such)--I guess if you don't have politics and death, you get no coverage.
We got it back at about 10:20 yesterday morning and it hasn't even flickered since. No generators.
We're definitely off through the weekend, and word is, we may be off next week, too. I haven't been out of my driveway, but apparently this area got hit really bad.
It's the worst storm that ever hit this area in recorded history.

Yep, Crystal's our half mini-Doxie/half terrier.
"....sheeesh....will this ever end......"
Yes, but I wish it would end prior to November 30, the official end of hurricane season!
