Guess what!!! The MIL called TODAY and INFORMED us that she and her husband (not dh's dad - he died and MIL remarried 2 years ago) are COMING TO VISIT from Florida (driving) for 4 days and arriving Saturday!!! Ummmmm hello, we've got activities, the house looks like a hurricane hit, and I really resent being forced to spend my week cleaning the house because she decided to "grace us with their presences". Oh, and did I mention that dh and the kids are going to visit them for 4 days the first weekend in October? There also isn't a whole lot of room in the budget right now for fixing things up or buying new things. I'm just barely keeping up with things the way it is. I was feeling good about balancing working out, practicing piano, and taking babysteps toward getting the house in shape. I hate to disrupt all that because she decided to visit. Her husband has children who live within a few hours of us so they're going to see them for a few days after they visit us. I am sooooooo mad I could spit!!! I need to get past this and start getting organized for their visit but that will take a day or so. I can start making lists in th mean time and at least I'll be making progress.
Dh is not pleased either and he let her know that but they're driving all the way from Florida and her husband is looking forward to seeing his grandchildren who live within a few hours so we don't really have much choice. I'm still really upset!!!!
Aaaaaaaack!!!!!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!

I am trying to work my way through the house slowly but surely to get it to the point where it's ready most of the time while putting routines in place to keep it that way. I was feeling pretty good about the pace until we got the phone call. We just put up new shelving and a desk in Evan's room and some new little shelves in Megan's room and they're both in the "looks worse before it looks better stage" right now. It won't take too long and once we get the extra furniture out of Evan's room things will be MUCH better.
Having a peaceful, company-ready house most of the time is my goal by the end of the year. I'm sure things will be fine once they get here. They're actually pretty nice guests.
Thanks for all the support and advice everyone. I'm feeling much better about things now. I've got a cleaning service coming on Friday and menus are planned. There is a large Post-it on the door to every room saying what has to be done there so everyone can pitch in and help when they have a few minutes. I'm headed to the Salvation Army Thursday to drop off all the things we've been collecting to donate and I bought some new placemats and a serving platter this morning. I'm still going to fill in with a few basic white serving pieces later this week (something I've wanted to do for awhile) but things are good for now.
I'm beginning to breathe and I keep reminding myself that her intentions are good and she didn't set out to make me crazy. :)
Thanks again everyone!!! Back to getting the house ready and laundry done.
