Reviving Ophelia by Mary Pipher? My friend said it's a great book about teen girls. Is it a worthwhile read?

I think I'm going to, I'm checking it out at the library tomorrow.

Here's a link to Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Reviving-Ophelia-Saving-Selves-Adolescent/dp/1594481881/sr=8-1/qid=1165377037/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-3544132-6504856?ie=UTF8&s=books

It looks great!

It's on the suggested reading list in the teen section of the library, but since my oldest reader is a boy - there is no way I could get him to read "a girl book".

I read it a couple of months ago. It is excellent. A must read for any mom. :)

Yes I read it about a yr ago -- found some of the "case studies" very interesting. Easier reading than I thought it would be (I read it on the subway during my work commute).

Ive never heard of it before but I looked it up and read the review, it sounds kind of harsh I think it depends on the age and maturity of your DD.

I thought she was asking about the mom reading it not the dd. I don't think I'd let my DD read it. Some of the things that happen to these girls are extreme. Suicide, drugs......
I do think a point that the author was making in the book is that this can happen to anyone. Some had money, involved parents, poor, divorced......

It would probably be a good book to read as an adult female.
