Have another question?

Now that we finally decided on a party. Do you all give goody bags at that age? If so what? I hate to give useless junk just to give something. In the past I've tried to give something in theme with the party that they can play with or use. Like last year we had a glow in the dark minature golf party and I gave out glow in the dark play dough with different molds. One year I gave book marks things like that. This year with skating theme I found gloves in three different colors with ice skating logos. Just wondering if this is a good Idea or if I can just skip the "goody" this time around. Another thing is I feel like the parents almost expect their kid to get something.

I'd say its up to your DD. They are getting the age where some people give goodies, some don't. I love the idea of the gloves because I too hate getting a bag of junk that just ends up in the trash. I try to give something bigger that is theme related as well. For our swimming party each kid got a swim noodle and a beach ball, for a party in the park when she was little each kid got a tiny plastic lawn chair ($3 each), there is also basketballs, and other large items you can get fairly cheap. But the idea of the gloves with a skating theme is perfect.

I think the last time I did an actual goodie bag was at Lon's 10th birthday party - we do generally do a make and take activity or do something that goes along with our party (love the idea of the swim noodles) but not an actual goodie bag.

I don't know that the parents expect something, I think most of us know how costly parties are and wouldn't care about the goody bag but I do think the kids expect them.

We just had Isaiah's 11th birthday party Saturday and he requested that we DO NOT have party bags. He had a bowling party and as a thank you for coming, each child received a certificate for a free game and shoes for future use.

I like the glove idea but I don't think a good bad would be expected at this age. :)

You would be appalled at what's "expected " by some of these parents at DD school. I think I'm going to do the glove thing and maybe some candy or chapstick, maybe both. I found the gloves online and just for the heck of it I asked if they would do a discount for bulk items and they said yes. Doesn't hurt to ask, glad I did.
