I think i might have seen this book talked about here before, not sure.
just curious what you think about this book if you've read it or know about it. I'm reading it right now, and while positive thinking is really a good idea, this book is full of very strange ideas, IMO. It has a lot of magical thinking in it. i would hope people don't take this too seriously...especially if you're sick and think you can visualize getting better, and you will! I don't think so...like I said positive thinking is good, but it has its limits.
What about when the author says to not even look at overweight people if you are trying to lose weight?!
Well, I'll finish the book, but as far as it working a miracle, it probably won't.
And she talks about wanting a lot of material things in this book, too. it's just the weirdest self-help book I think I've ever read.
has anyone seen the movie?

One of my sister's friends, after reading this book, left her children for 6 weeks (she is divorced so left them with Dad) and went to Australia to "discover" herself or something like that. I'm sorry, but any book that would cause you to do something so strange is not something I would want to read. I think your gut feelings on this book are right!!

I have not read but I sold several copies online and it went like hotcakes. The kind of thinking described is not for me.

I have seen the DVD -- one of my DH's colleagues asked all of their co-workers to watch it -- and I have seen all the hype on Oprah. I do like the basic premise of the book, which is that positive thinking and positive actions can help "attract" positive results, just as people who have a negative outlook on life always seem to attract more negativity, more problems. I think there is a lot of truth to that. But I think that is pretty common sense, not exactly a breakthrough idea, so it surprised me that this book was getting so much hype. Beyond that, I do agree that a lot of The Secret is really "out there."

I wonder if this has something to do with scientology? Isn't what that's all about, too? Positive thinking to cure your body and make you a famous movie star?
