Hello everyone! I haven't been on this board in quite some time. It's Sylvia, username used to be nodinero...but I had to get a new name when I rejoined this site. I see some very familiar names are still here...Laura is still the cl, that's great! I've missed you all, had to get settled in all my new adjustments in life...so so many. Looking forward to being a part of the group again and catching up on what's been going on! Hope you guys remember me...otherwise you would just think I'm a freak! haha!

Hi Laura! Yes, it's really me...long lost Sylvia! Yes, we are still in Arizona. I'm trying to get in the halloween spirit but it's hard to do when the weather is still in the 90's. This is my 3rd year of living here and I'm still adjusting to the high temps. I love the weather from this point until June though...so can't complain too much.
Hmm, so asperger's...I'm still learning about it myself. It's a "mild" form of autism. The main "symptom" is a social disorder. People with this disorder are usually very smart, have a high interest in something that goes beyond a hobby...it's almost like an obsession and they have a very difficult time making and keeping friends because they don't understand the rules of socialization. They are usually very literal people and don't get boundaries of others. It's such a wide spectrum of symptoms that no one really fits into a certain category. Looking back, I can recall noticing certain symptoms from the time Matthew was an infant but since he was my first child, I didn't know it wasn't normal. This last year has been especially difficult for our family and it prompted me to start family counseling. It took a couple of months and our counselor suggested that Matthew might have asperger's. I had heard it from a teacher and a doctor in the past but again...I was in total denial. With therapy, a lot of "aspies" can lead successful lives, even marry and have families. As I type that I get all teary because as a mother I feel like my dream of Matthew just doing those things without help is shattered.
So, I see you are living in California....we went to Newport Beach over the summer for vacation. What part of California did you guys move to? Are you still in school? Your kids are so big...especially Carys...wow!
