HELP, Kids starting to steal!
| Mon, 10-27-2003 - 11:21am |
Hi I am new to this post also, my kids are 10, 11, and 2. AAAHH! I had the most frustrating morning today. I am finding that the older two are starting to sneak things around the house. Cookies and snacks into backpacks, money from my change jar is missing, the bottle of gummy vitamins i bought three days ago is almost empty. And of course when I confronted them about it all they just lied to my face!!! I hate to think that they are stealing and lying to me. I"ve already had to ban them from going to the store down the street because I found that their friends were stealing from there. Any suggestions as to how to deal with this would be very appreciated.
Welcome to the board, we're glad to have you here.

Welcome! You have a tough situation - and 2 of them joining in together and with friends. I don't have anything to add to Sherrie's suggestions. Establish strict consequences for lying and stealing - severe ones - and then be consistent with them. What's important to them? TV time? Video games? They are totally gone for one week for every offence. Make them repay you or the store they stole from with their own money + a fine in addition to taking away priveleges. And, as Sherrie said, talk about your belief and value system, and why this behavior is wrong and unacceptable to you.
Hang in there! Glad you posted this to us. Please let us know how you are doing.
