Homework or break first?

Do you have your kids do their homework right away after school or give them a break first? Do they do chores first or break first?
I usually like my kids to finish their homework first, but they insist on a break...so we'll see if we can all negotiate things. If they have soccer, it's a busy evening!

Alexis usually grabs a snack and heads to her room to start homework. She has activities M-Th in the evenings so she knows it needs to get done.

Caleb gets home at 3 and has down time until 4 and then has to start his homework.

Chores, my kids don't know what that word means.

Well, my DD gets home at 4:10 and I get home around 5:30. She rarely does it before dinner. I am trying to stay out of it and let her do it when she wants to do it. I will give her a reminder and then she's on her own otherwise we just end up with

Rach usually calls me to let me know she got home off the bus ok then asks what she can eat as snack. After she has her snack she'll get started on her HW...when I ask about her day, I'll ask what classes she has HW in. She will do everything she can on her own & then after DH or I get home if she needs help we'll sit down w/her to work on it.

My twins are 8th graders and I don't micro-manage their homework.

This year is different for us because we pulled our dds from a private school and enrolled them in our public schools.

We've always given Sherina a 30-minute break first, but then she is to go straight into homework.

However, as she gets older, & starts to get home later, I'm wondering about moving homework up to first thing & then letting her rest.

Thanks to Kelly (mom2emsopmax) for my beautiful siggy! Photobucket
