Wow to even consider offering an 11 year old birth control pills. My 11 year old is horrified at the thought of starting her period.Plus she sice she hasn't evn had her first period yet why even throw birth control pills in to the mix.I did have the sex talk with her and they did offer a program at school, and I do fell she needs to be informed, but tossing out birth control pills to someone who has't even had her first kiss is kind of bizarre. She isn't evn ready to have the conversation with me and totally understand it.I know this just from talking to her.She has the info, but alot of the understanding isn't there. When I told her one way not to get asexual transmitted disease would be not o have sex,she said Oh they didn't tell us that in our program.Hello when talking with 10/11 year olds this is still an option. If this were a high school I'd be ok with them passing them out,but passing birth control pills out in an an enviorment where half the populatio probably hasn't even gone through puburity is crazy.Plus bith control pills do not prevent sexually transmitted diseases,at least condoms offer some protection if you use them.Plus what 11 year old will know how to take the pill properly or even remember, there are some nights I have to remind dd to brush her teeth, let alone her remembering to take a pill.

I am sure I am in the minority here, LOL

I am not at all condoning this, but they are clearly seeing an increase in sexually active, pregnant, etc... kids at this age level!

I'm with Laura. I don't think that young kids on b/c is a great thing, but it seems like a better alternative to pregnancy. I would be likely hurt if my child came home with pills, but I'd rather that than coming home pregnant. I'd be proud that she had enough initiative to take care of business so to speak if she's going to have sex. Of course I'd be devestated that she was having sex at 12, but I'd be more devestated to have her become a mother before 13.

I think many of us often forget that lots of parents out there aren't like us. There are kids raising themselves, who've had to take on adult roles from the time they were tiny. 7 year olds cooking and cleaning and raising younger kids, sometimes not seeing parents for days on end. By the time they are 12 they are very old and have no family support, no one to show them the way. For some of those kids this kind of program might be a lifesaver. For most of our kids here it would be uneeded as we have good relationships with our kids and talk regularly about stuff like sex and relationships. But in some places we would be rarities.

Most of these young girls won't admit it if they are smokers as well and we all know this makes the pill dangerous.
