In many cities, the new rule is that not only do dogs have to be on a leash, but so do cats.
What are your thoughts on this topic?

My only opinion/thoughts are that I'm
While I can understand the logic (cat's pooping in other's yards, getting run over and causing car accidents by swerving drivers) it just doesn't sync with common sense! Dogs are more aggressive and prone to cause damage..like this story says...the DOG came into the CATS yard. I too would be fighting this citation!

You know this is awfully ironic. My brother called me Monday afternoon to tell me that my 19 year old cat, which lives with my parents, had been attacked by a dog in the neighbhood. Luckily he didn't die, but this story hit home because my cat was also in our gated backyard when it happened. The dog lives down the street, was not on a leash, roams the neighborhood frequently, jumped my parents' fence, attacked the cat (who was apparently asleep on my brother's basketball hoop base), when the cat tried to run up the tree the dog headbutted him into the tree. The dog's owner say the tree part and didn't do a thing, and told Blake the neighbor boy that the dog always comes home with blood on him, "its not a big deal". Luckily since Blake saw the whole thing, he went and got our cat. But my mom had to do the police report thing and hopefully something will come of it. I do understand the issue of cats roaming around the neighborhood and such, but if they are in their own yard, especially a gated yard, I think its a slightly different story. Most cats are not as capable as a dog attack children, or other animals and hurt someone or something.

I do get irritated when (on several ocassions) I have gone into my privacy fenced back yard and find a cat----I am not a cat lover and I have a dog, so often find that when the cat gets into my yard, they are pooping and peeing/spraying everything--which makes my dog---to which this is HER yard, go nuts.
