Indiana has passed a new law that it is now legal for a 14 year old to have sex with an 18 yr old or older person.

And we need to make sure to tell them sex can KILL you...with STD's and HIV...and also Rebecca you might want to prepare yourself for a grandchild...or maybe you can convince them to choose adoption...even birth control cannot completely protect them!

Kim,

In a perfect world we would be able to see where and what our kids are doing 24/7--but thats not realistic.

My kids will indeed know that sex can kill, as well as the fact that BC does not work 100% of the time,

I'm just saying there are ways to help prevent them from having sex...like making an early curfew, not allowing them to be alone with boys at other kids' homes, not allowing boys to come over and be with her in her bedroom alone...KWIM? Not providing BC if they ask at 15 or 16.

i just want to be cautious with what I allow them to do.

My concern with not allowing birth control is that its not going to stop them. They will just shrug and hope for the best. They skip out of school in the morning and by the time the school reports to you at 10:00 she's missing they've already been to his house and had sex. It only takes 15 min. (or less when you're young)

And that is very true, your absolutely right, but...I still think there has to be some trust there, and I also think you need to allow them some freedom--if they are sheltered too much, then the unknown is much mroe scary!

Either way this age is very scary for so many reasons.
