Our school year for Kayleigh's middle school is broken up into 4 quarters of 10 weeks each - and four interim five week periods, so we get five week reports (the first will be this Friday), and then five weeks later we get official report cards.
Jordyn's school has 9 week marking periods, so there are 4 semesters, they just sent progress reports home last week. In her school last year she had 6 weeks periods.
We have three although I've heard there is scuttlebutt that they might switch to two to cut down on the amoutn of reports teachers have to do. But right now the first one is up to the end of November (Sept- Nov), then to March, then to June.
Got the scoop on how the grading system works at Hannah's Junior High She has 2 semesters Every quarter she will bring home a report card with her grades Or you can look on-line and see how she's doing. :)
We have trimesters, 3 grading periods. The is frustrating for teachers and students since our school is "year" round and breaks into 4, 9 week sessions with 3 weeks in between. This means that this first grading period ends only 3 weeks after we get back from fall break. And because of it some of the newer teachers assigned homework over break. It's odd because enrichement classes run on the trimester rather than the quarter breaks. The reason for this is that only 4 schools out of 30 in the district run this schedule. The district wants the whole district on the same schedule.
We work on trimesters as well, which I had never heard of until this school. I wouldn't like semesters because I think that's too long to wait to find out how they're doing. I also like trimesters over semesters because it gives them longer to pick up their grades vs semesters. My big complaint is how long it takes to get the report cards after the trimester ends, it can take up to a month.
They also go on a 6 day rotation which my little brain can never keep up with. I understand the reason because it gives them extra room in the schedule, but I never know what day it is. My son just keeps a copy of his schedule on the fridge and in his locker.
Are these grades that they get on their report card looked part of their permanent record? When I talked to the school yesterday, the sect. told me that the 2 grading periods are part of Hannah's permanent record? You think a college would look at 7th grade grades?
