That is a lot of birthdays in a short time frame and of course we buy for everyone. Now at Christmas i have to buy for my parents, my two kids, DH and i buy something for each other that we would like (this year we are getting

We don't do birthdays except for our parents and our kids. At Christmas, we buy for our parents, our kids, and all the nieces and nephews.

It IS materialistic but you know I buy for 10 neices and nephews....my sister has 4 kids, SIL has 5, and DH's step sister has 1. How fair is it that we set a limit and I spend double + on our sisters kids? Kwim?
As for the step sister, we've made it known that we don't expect her to buy for both kids, if she wants to do something a small together gift is more than enough.

I buy for dad & stepmom, Mike's dad & stepmom (both our mothers have passed away), 2 nieces, and 6 nephews (2 nephews were/will be born this year). Then, gifts from Aly for aunts, uncles, grown cousins.

One of the nieces and 2 of the nephews are steps, so I don't spend as much as the others.

I do a gift exchange at school, Aly brings each teacher & bus driver a gift, and we exchange gifts with a couple that are good friends without kids yet. We'll add their kids when the time comes...they are like family.

My dad's sister used to hide money in our gifts (i.e. coins in a box full of packing material, a paper bill rolled up and inserted into an attached ornament, etc.) starting when we were 13. At 16 it stopped all together. It was usually about $10.

hiding the $ is a great idea. :)
