My son is 13, my dd is 10. We go to a private school 20 min away. We're relatively new to this neighborhood and because we don't go to the local school there are no neighbors for the kids to play with, and that's fine by me.
My 13yo ds is involved in sports. Right now he has practice m-f til 5, then he comes home, eats, does homework and has a little time to do what he wants. He will occasionally have a friend sleep over or go to someone's house on the weekend. He's an introvert by nature and I think between school and sports he's doing enough socializing.
My 10 dd is a gymnast and it's quite all consuming for her as well. Many weekends are spent going to meets. When she has time she does sleepovers, usually people come here. When she has downtime she likes to sew, read and watch tv.
I don't want them just hanging out and getting into trouble.
I don't think at this age it's crucial that they spend tons of time at parties, hanging out at friends houses, etc. I do like them to play outside and do fun unstructured things, but I'm not concerned about them hitting the party circuit and driving any more than I already to for them.

Sometimes I wish that Kayleigh spent more time with friends but I haven't always been good about get togethers.
