thanks ...... I am not going to rush her into anything.. besides we have other issues that are not "safe" for her to be alone. SO I am not willing to try to encourage her to do anything. I want her to be safe and stay that way. I can control that little part of her life. I know I only have a year left until she is going to have to stay somewhere by herself but I do not know what i am going to do then. But thanks.
Hey there, We have a 10 year old and occasionally we let her stay home alone for short periods of time. She is very responsible and takes this time as a learning experience. We have told her it is a test of sorts to see how she does. And she has been awesome.
Wow. I feel like a really overprotective mom right now.
We just started letting our girls stay home alone a few months ago. Kaylee is 11 and Allissa is 8.5. Allissa isn't allowed home alone, she's only allowed home with Kay. In our state, it is illegal to leave a child under the age of 11 alone without supervision by someone 11 or older. I know it's likely not something they enforce too much, but I wasn't taking any chances.
We rarely leave them for longer than 30 mins to an hour.
i have an eleven yr old and i do not let her stay home alone at all....... so your not the only one.
I was just curious. I have one more year until I have no place to send her after school. I guess by the time she got home from the bus it would be around four and I get off work around six. So two hours.....thats a long time. I can not imagine leaving her for that long. But like I said i have a year...(kind of) But still........
My oldest is 13. I swear he'd be fine in his own apartment - lol. He's way more confident and independent than my dd. He started staying alone about 4th grade. He loved it and had no problems. We can leave him for hours and he's fine.
My dd who is almost 11 would never choose to stay home alone, she always just comes with me. My son will stay with her and she's okay as long as I let her rent a movie. I don't want to force her if she's not ready. She's usually okay if I'm just at a neighbors party across the street.
well I had this talk with dd and I am doing okay with it. I thought I would try it. I am really picky about leaving her... we already have so many problems so let see how this works and then go from there.

9.5 for a quick errand to drop older ones off in-town at the YMCA or something like that.
