my 11-year-old would like to attend the public junior high that "all' of her friends will be attending next year.

Well you are the mom and you have to do what you think is best for her.That said,and assuming that your dd would get a decent education at the public school,you can listen to her input.However,I guess in the end it should be your choice.I'm ok with the public school my dd attends and she has a great group of friends.I feel for the most part she is getting a good education,probably about the same as she would at a Catholic school.There is a private school in our area where she could get a better education,but we can't afford it,so it isn't an issue.If your reasons for sending he to private schoolis about the level of education she is getting that is great.However,if you want her to go to private school because you think you can escape the drug/teen pregnacy and alcohol issues,that really isn't a good reason.However,if you do decide on private school I'm sure your dd will be fine and make a lot of new friends.You are the mom and at 11 what you say goes,and even if she doesn't like it,she'll get over it.

Her wants and needs are based purley on a social value--which is very important, but not the most important aspect!

I don't consider it pushy for a parent to make decisions about their child's education.
