Zachary is now 58 inches tall and weighs 90 pounds I was just wondering if he is big for his age or not? I know he is taller than most kids his age at school last yr but should I be worried about his weight or not? He is wearing size 8 men`s shoes and 14 regular jeans and size 12 shirts. He has a 28 inch waist and an inseam of 24. I cannot believe how much he has grown just this summer!

Kevin's about the same. He's 5' tall, and just about hitting 100 lbs. He wears a size 7 1/2-8 shoe, a 12-14 jean, and shirts are 14-16 ('cause he likes them big.) He's actually one of the taller kids in his class (Nov. b'day, so he's 11 3/4 at this point in time.) Sounds like you DS is very close in size to my own.

Jonathan is also 58". He is a bit overweight (and I'll respect him by not posting that weight). He wears a size 6 shoe. He must take after DH with having small feet (my feet are like boats! LOL)

BTW, I haven't been on the bd since the end of June. I was wondering how you were and went back in the posts to see that you went through some bad times due to a *typo*! Sheesh! Glad to see that you are doing well and there's no problems.

How funny that so far all of our boys are about the same size! Three months ago when Stephen had a physical, he was 57 1/4" tall and 92 1/2 pounds. He wears a size 12 in jeans, but I've bought him 14's for the fall. The 12's are getting short (but they are still fine for shorts). He wears about a size 7 in shoes. I feel like he is pretty average for his age. He used to be on the tall end of the spectrum, but right now there are kids that are easily 6 inches taller than him, as well as some that are 6 inches shorter. There seems to be a pretty big variation in their heights right now.

Another very similar one. Matthew turns 11 on Aug 9, and is 94 pounds, and just over 5', in size 7.5 shoe. He wore size 14 jeans in the spring so I'm guessing 16 in the fall, and likes to wear adult S tshirts and adult M 'hoodies'.

First, did you ask your ped. about your concerns? My ped. is not overly concerned, other than talking to Sam about nutrition and exercise in a general way, knowing he's not an active kid. The doc is not overly concerned because Sam has been following the same curve on the growth charts since he was a toddler, and so the doc felt his weight was consistent. Sam was 58 1/4 inches tall and 108 lbs. in June at his 11yo checkup. That was 75% on the height and 90-95% on the weight. He's slimmed down a little with all the activity at camp, but I haven't asked him to get on the scale. It's definitely a conern in our house, but like I said, the doc was no more concerned than last year, other than making sure Sam is active.

Rachel had a heavy "blip" last year, but was back on her "regular" chart curves this year. She was 57 1/2 inches tall and 86 lbs., which was just above 50% on both charts.

(Sam has been consistently 1-1.5 inches taller than Rachel at every checkup almost since birth!)

Sam also wears size 14 pants and 12-14 shirts.

It is amazing that the majority of the posts are relatively close! I guess I'm amazed because there is such a size varience of boys (and girls) in the classes at school. My son is 10 1/2 yrs; he is 5' 1" and weighs in at 115 lbs. He wears a size 9 shoe. He is just a big kid -- always has been! Our Ped simply explained it "Zach is just going to be a big boy -- deal with it". Zach is extremely active, besides normal outside activity like bike riding, skate boarding, swimming, etc., he plays on two organized baseball teams, he plays football and two separate seasons of basketball. If you are concerned about his size, look at his in front of TV time, as well as computer time, video game time, etc. Your son is probably right on track to an 11 year old.

Sean isn't 11 yet (November) but he is about 61" and 100 pounds. He wears size 7 shoes, size 14-16 pants, size 14 shirts. I know his waist is +28", but I don't know his inseam measurement. They are big kids, no doubt about it.

Best Always,

Girl, will be 11 in a month, 58 inches and about 68 pounds. She is slender but not thin. I consider her on the short side. According to the doc her final height will likely be around 5"6' But I guess girls are taller than boys at that age. The boys gain height later.
