How tall are your kids?

Hi to you all,

I'm wondering how tall your kids are. My son is 13 years old and very short 4'2" . It is starting to really annoy him that he's so much shorter than his friends (nevemind his younger sister). Also are there short kids in your kids classes?

Um, I was the short kid from 9th grade on (I'm 5'3")!

My DD, Sherina, who's ten, has always been on the tall side--DH is 5'11".

Thanks to Kelly (mom2emsopmax) for my beautiful siggy! Photobucket

My kids are tall.

Daisy 12- 5'4"
Joey 11- 4'10"
Adam 10- 4'8"

Daisy's "class" at school is on the tall side, they have been since kindergarten. In contrast the group of kids at the middle school I work at the same age are on the shorter side. I'm talking the groups as a whole, not individuals.

What does the doctor say about his height?

Sounds like one of dd's guy "friends" (though I kind of think she likes him).

His self esteem is relatively ok, thanks to the fact that he has some good friends. But he's starting to suffer more because the gap is widening. Also his little sister has outgrown him, and that's sometimes pointed out by other kids. He doesn't really like that!

My ds is 11 (6th grade this fall) and about 4' 7". He's in the 25% for height for boys but about mid-class if you add the girls. My dd Megan (8 - 3rd grade this fall) is about 3 inches shorter than he is and is in the 75% in height for girls. For the last week or two everyone has been telling me how tall she is. I think she's going to end up being the tallest in the family. :) We've always told Evan that it's what kind of a person you are not how big a person you are that counts. We've also told him to let his actions speak for themselves. He's a great swimmer so let your accomplishments in the pool do the talking. He's also been identified as gifted so let your work in the classroom show your strengths. I don't usually buy him t-shirts with sayings/obnoxious words on them but we found one at Target about a year ago that said "Small but Mighty" and he LOVED it.

I'm only 4'11" so I can relate to your son's feelings. I used to make my mom cut the labels out of my clothes so that my friends didn't know I was wearing a 6X in 4th grade. :) My parents always told me that people are more than numbers (i.e. their size) and very adeptly guided me to activities that helped me shine and gave me confidence. Turns out I was a decent musician and ended up as the concert mistress in my jr. high and high school orchestras for 7 years straight.

Might be worth a check with the dr. if it bothers either/both of you.

The doctor is not concerned because he is following his curve (he never stopped growing or something). He should get a growth spurt sooner or later. Of course, waiting for it is not easy and it can take some time!

My DD is almost 14 and just outgrew me, I'm 5'3" and she just hit 5'4".

Logan, my 9 year old is 4'3" and growing like a weed.

My infant though is tiny, he's only in the 3rd pecentile for weight and 10th for height and they tell us he is just going to be a "little guy."
