I have a little question, how tall are your kids? My 13 year old son is extremely short for his age and measures only 4'2"! The 2nd grader at church he helps, are as tall, or taller than him... My dd on the other hand is average, at 4'6".

DD 13 is 4 ft 9 and is considered short for her age. She is the 2nd smallest among the other 97 eighth graders. She wears a 5 shoe.
DD 11 is a little taller then average at 4 ft 8 1/2. She wears a 8.5 shoe.

My DD will be 12 at the end of may and she is about 5'1 1/2" more or less, maybe 5'2". She is one of the taller girls in her grade although not the tallest. Her best friend is probably 4'2" or so. There is a quite a variety at this age. Have you talked to his Dr. about it? Sometimes there is a physical reason why kids aren't growing to the "norm" and other times its just genes and the luck of the draw. However if it bothers him I'd talk to the Dr. just to assure him that he's normal.

My DD is turning 12 in June and I'm guessing she's about 5'2 now, she was 5'1 at her checkup last June.

I second Mindy... If you're concerned, talk to your pediatrician and maybe he/she will recommend an endocrinologist. I'm very short and it turns out I have a chromosomal abnormality that an endocrinologist picked up when I was about 14. He was able to run some tests and give me medications that made my life pretty much normal. Without his help, I would not have gone through puberty and "developed". As a parent, always go with your gut instinct and do what you "feel" is right for your child.

My DS11 (will be 12 in May) measured 5'1" in the fall (with his shoes on!) I think he's probably 5'1" without shoes now!

My son (he turned 12 in December) is 5'2 3/4. He's grown since his last ped visit in December and at that time was in the 95% percentile for height for boys his age. His growth has been consistent throughout the years (and has grown an inch since July 06).

His twin sister is 4'11 3/4. She was in the 50% percentile for girls her age in December. Her grown was consistent, however she has not grown even a fraction of an inch since July 2006.

Kids this age vary in height considerably. My son is among the tallest in his group of friends (and his best friend goes to his shoulder).

My oldest Ds is 13 (since Jan) and in the 7th grade. He is about 5 foot, 6-1/2 inches, and wears a size 13 Man's shoe! (I am only 5-4 so he loves that!).

My youngest Ds is 10 (yesterday!) and in the 4th grade. He is about 4 foot-10 inches and wears a size 6 shoe.
