5th grade has been a lot tougher than DD expected (and for us as parents-have you seen the kind of homework they have to do? more like high school level than 5th grade; not to mention the state test assessments they have to take-anyways) She was used to be the braniac of the class and it was 'easy' for her. Not so much this year- she has worked very hard and struggled to maintain all B's. The Ironic thing is the areas where she feels she's weak are actually her best grades. The areas where we and her teachers feel she needs to work harder she blows off. Not sure how much different things will be next year. We live in a small town so she has basically had the same friends since for the last 4 yrs. She is expanding her circle though. She used to have the same 1 or 2 girlfriends over to the house. Now she's introducing other friends she has.
Kayleigh gets her 3rd quarter report card this Friday and her grades that I've seen so far on tests, projects, etc for this marking period would indicate that she will make high honor roll again this marking period.
Jackie has picked up her grades and is doing better. She is struggling still but working very hard about picking up those grades. I do not know if I will ever see the honor roll party again but thats ok with me.
She is doing really well. We had some "misunderstandings" about math and the expectations but now that we've got that solved she's working in an advanced group with 4 other kids (all boys which bugs her to no end LOL) with the student teacher so she's really happy. She does not like her teacher, the teacher is very unorganized and for Kristen that is just a crime worse than murder, but I've told her to just respect her and before she knows it school will be over. I know the teacher likes her but there was some problems with expecting Kristen to keep her friends in line and I figured that's not her job but the adult's job. But we got past that and things have been going pretty well. She's not finding the work any more difficult, rarely has homework, so that's not an issue for us.
She has changed her peer group a bit as the year went on. She started with one group and I think they were too much alike and all hell broke loose before Christmas (in the class in general) but since then she's kind of gravitated to another group of girls, she sort of flits about but I'm happy with the group she's with now more or less. Next year will be a big change with middle school, lots more kids from different schools. Right now there is only 60 or less Grade 6's so her peer group is limited. I hope next year she can find more kids who share her interests and aren't friends merely by the fact there is no one else to choose from.
Kelsey made one new friend this year. She is doing very well in school. She is a pretty good student, solid all the way around, creative, imaginative and very social. Tegan made a ton of new friends last year. We are a feeder school so we had 43 kids from a different school in '05-'06. Tegan is a wonderful student, as a matter of fact she was accepted into the gifted program for high school. She has no areas she struggles in. Her weakest class is phys. ed. She received an 83.
