Huge Meat Recall!!

For those of you who haven't heard, there has been a huge beef recall, around 143 MILLION pounds. This is because a whistle blower who went undercover at a slaughterhouse in Chino, Ca. discovered a lot of abuse towards the cattle. They were being forklifted to the slaughter, which is not legal and also being shocked, etc. because the cows could not move due to illness or injury. The Company has been fined and people fired...and I think they are closed down now. Also, this Company provided beef to the nations' school lunch programs!
The USDA meat inspectors don't allow sick cows to be eaten, due to the high risk of transmitting diseases like mad cow, which has no known cure.
I watched this video on the news and it was very disturbing...the whistle-blower wore a hidden camera every day he worked there. This man is very brave, IMO. He is a vegan and that's the only info he'll give out about himself. He has always been concerned over animal treatment.
So, my questions are: Have your children's schools taken beef off the menu (mine has)
Also, will you consider being vegetarian after this or just cutting out red meat?

My answer is I am not touching red meat again, there have been too many beef recalls in recent history and I don't like the thought of these cows being tortured before slaughter, and red meat isn't too great on my arteries anyway!

My DH was raised vegetarian, so this won't be a problem...I might even consider cutting out chicken as well.
Is anyone here already vegetarian? What do you think about this beef recall?

I will continue what we've done for years, which is eat meat that was locally grown/slaughtered.

This happened a few weeks ago, and yes dd's school had meat recalled, and so did mine. Both school districts have pulled beef from their menus.

Did you see the video of how they treated those cows and what the cows looked like? I wouldn't trust that meat. I understand what you're saying about it being a scare tactic, but the video is reality and how do we know for sure other slaughterhouses aren't doing the same thing?
I am glad the whistle-blower did this, we need more people like him to go to other places to expose them too.
