Kristen won't let me hug her in public. Most of the time she pretends I don't even exist. LOL She likes to hug at home though and will sit on my lap while watching TV. Sometimes she'll take my hand if we're out walking as long as no one she knows is nearby. It will change back again I think as they get older and more confident.
Oh, you're lucky, at least you still get them in private! My 12-yo shies away from any kind of hugs from us, in private and in public. It has been that way for years. It makes me very sad. I don't know why he is that way.
For my birthday, I said "I don't want any presents, I just want a 15-second hug from you." That's about the only way I can get a good hug out of him. He likes me to rub his back at bedtime, so that's how I get my physical lovin' in with him!
Luckily, my almost 8-yo is VERY cuddly and hugs me all the time. Don't know what I'd do without him.

How old is your son?
I think boys tend to do that before girls.
Connor made me stop hugging him in public when he was about 10 or 11 years old.
I guess I am lucky, cause my DS Jake (11)

My 13 year old son has an un-spoken 'lets not touch in public' policy.
Yeah, I'm waiting for that day when DS who is 10 doesn't want hugs.
