Insomnia in 11 yr old

Hi I haven't posted in awhile, but I do have a problem with my 11 yo son.

He has been having insomnia since about July. He started middle school in mid August, started a new program in school, and I thought after things settled down he would be able to sleep better. It's not happening.

He is tired at night, and I have been good about a bedtime routine for him. I still watch that he does not eat sugar in the evenings, or anything that might pep him up. We do quiet things as bedtime draws near.

I will take him in to the doctor, but I was wondering if possibly the start of puberty might cause insomnia. I was wondering that because I know menopause can trigger insomnia in me. I figured maybe hormones are playing a role in this.

So has anyone here had this happen and what did you do?

Sorry, no insomnia experience here.

I think if you are truly concerned and if it is a serious problem, which it obviously is, then I would call his doctor.
