Hi and welcome! I'm Ami. Married to Manuel and we have two kids Evan (almost 12) and Megan(8). Jump right in, it's a great group and the board moves quickly!

I don't have any experience with moving a tween but I would say involve her in the process as much as you can so she feels a part of this and not like this is being "done to her". If possible, let her see a few homes, check out the school, look at what the park district has to offer, etc. Just my inexperienced thoughts.

Hope you like it here!!!

Hi Gabriella, Welcome to the board! I am Nicole... I look forward to knowing you

I moved my 12, 11 and 10 year olds from CA to IL about 15 mos ago and it went relatively well. When we were certain we were moving I narrowed down the houses we were going to choose from and our WHOLE family flew out to make the final choice. We went all around the neighborhoods and surrounding areas. Checked out schools and talked to people about sports and other extra curricular activities. We totally included them in on the move and it worked out great! They got to pick their rooms, paint for the walls, new linen for their beds etc. We also took them to pick out new appliances and stuff for the new house. It was important to me that my kids feel included because I was moved at the age of 12 and it was sprung on me. I don't think I've ever recovered (kidding...kinda).

We also set up email accounts for them so that they could keep in touch with their friends back home.

I hope it works out for you though.... Good luck!

I just wanted to add: if possible, it is much better to move in the middle of the school year rather than in the summer. I know this sounds counterintuitive, but she will instantly be surrounded with new friends during the school year, and she will be treated like something special.

I also moved at the age of 12 (well, one month prior to my 12th birthday) and it was sprung on me on the last day of 6th grade!

Thanks to Kelly (mom2emsopmax) for my beautiful siggy! Photobucket
