This is Hannah's list. She's in the 8th grade/I know last year she brought her cell phone and her Ipod to school.

cell phones, iPods, CD Players, MP3 Players, Walkman, radios, electronic games, laser pointers, lighters, matches, tobacco products, fireworks, or any other items deemed inappropriate by administrators. Thee items will be confiscated and retuned to the parents on the first offense.

No trench coats, sagging pants, short skirts/shorts, or chains. Trench coats are not permitted. While baggy pants are OK, the sagging look is not acceptable. "Short skirts", dresses, or shorts are also not aceptable. Tank tops must have straps wider than 2 inches and no "tummy" may be exposed. Any student found wearing inappropriate clothing will be asked to contact his/her parents and return home to change.

No bags in classroom Bags brought to school (such as backpacks, equipment bags, and duffel bags) will not be permitted in classrooms. Bags may be brought to school but must be stored in the student's assigned locker before first period starts and taken home at the end of the day.

Our school has a great way to get around the cellphone issue: kids can use the office phone anytime the school is open to call home or their parents' work. (It's a separate line just for this purpose.) The policy works really well--people rarely abuse it--mainly because there is always a line of kids yelling at you to finish your call quickly so they can call their parents. Thus, it's self-enforcing, which I think is ideal. In an emergency, kids can use the nurse's phone.

After school, the kids can use their cellphones outside the building, but the reception is so bad that most kids just use the office phone anyway.

I would push for a similar policy if I were you because the kids have to have some way to call their parents.

sometimes I think uniforms wouldn't be a bad idea. I know our school board has discussed them but so far nothing has been done.

Um...nothing that she's told ME about! I'm glad to say both of my kids kind of 'look down' on things like that! LOL!

The kids at our school are allowed to use the school phone. They just have to ask. However, if the office is closed, there are no phones available. WE used to have a pay phone but they took that out because they were having too many problems.

I'm not sure what our handbook says about cell phones. I think they can have them if they are in their backpacks. I guess I should check that...

Having no phone access when the office is closed would be a problem. Our school has a phone available whenever the building is occupied, so kids can always call for help.

We have the same problem here, if the office is closed the main phone is locked up. They have phones in classrooms, but not the lockerrooms or outside. There is bad reception in the school anyway, so that isnt the problem.

I never really thought about it too much. I guess there are a couple of phones the kids could use scattered throughout the building (if certain doors aren't locked). All of our sports practices are later in the day (like 5:00 and later) so the office is locked. I know lots of kids and the coaches have cell phones with them so I'm sure they are allowed at that time of the day.

wanted to add that they can't have the cell phone, ipods, etc on campus before school. After school it's no problem. :) If they are prohibited then why can they use them at certain times? Makes no sense to little old me.
