I was so glad to hear about this book here. Ya know, I hear so many people talking about how 'the talks' shouldn't be just one big talk, but just handled little by little as the kids show interest...and that's how I always thought it would be. But my DD has NEVER shown any interest! I'm really not concerned about giving her the info (I did have the period talk with her)...but what makes it weird is that I am having to initiate the discussins out of the blue. I have given her so many opportunities to ask for more info that I would know when she was 'ready' to hear about it, but she doesn't pick up on them. She has even helped me pick out pads/tampons...she can find the kind I buy faster than I can on the shelf, but she'd never ask what they were. Finally, one time she asked what the machine was for in the public bathroom and i gave her some basic info, but she really didn't have questions.
So, anyway I thought it HIGH time she knew about puberty, so we've talked about that...now I am trying to decide about the 'sex' talk. Again, I will have to just say "Hey, I want to talk to you about something..." lol
She's 10, going into 5th. It seems I have heard from lots of boys moms that THEY have told their sons (hey...stop telling the boys so young! lol) So, I don't want my dd to be naive compared to them!!!

Hey Pam,

Did you go read my trip reports?

I've heard about this book for YEARS now. We also just went to a Body Basics for Girls class and that was on the top of the recommended reading list.

We didn't buy it, though..just checked it out from the library.

My DD is the same. She has never once in her life asked a question about sex or bodies. I ALWAYS have to bring it up. The book was a big help but I just try to find logical openings. Its tough when it doesn't seem natural. The day I brought a condom home was interesting. LOL I think you are going about it the right way, just try and find natural openings (as natural as can be expected) and keep popping the info out there. Even if they aren't asking they are definitely listening.
