The group that's now in 8th grade, of 175 students that I taught last year, 34 of them were identified SPED or 504. Only one student of that group failed (504), so 33 moved up, but 6 8th graders failed the LEAP last year, and had to repeat 8th grade, all SPED. So they have 39+ this year identified in ONE grade.

In 7th grade, I have about 21 identified (both SPED & 504).

Now, I don't know the 504 numbers, but there are only like 20 SPED students total in 5th AND 6th grade. We only have 1 inclusion teacher that does both grades and 1 resource teacher that does both grades. Where in 7th & 8th grade, we have 1 inclusion teacher per grade (with 4 paras in 8th grade), and 1 resource teacher.

DYK since I'm in charge of the rice steamer, I need to go for now. The shrimp is almost ready & the rice has been for a while so I need to dish it out. Jamie has been complaining she's hungry for 10 min now....BBL

We're eating in the dining room with candles, just to be fancy

I'm praying my pale sand carpet doesn't wind up stained from the kids, LOL

Maybe I'll put some sheets down

So, my point was...that year that the now 8th graders were in 6th grade, we had an excessively large group of SPED students in our school (in fact, there was a G/G twins in 7th grade, both SPED).

It's dying down now. But teachers from other schools (this is my first school) say that they've never seen such numbers before anywhere.

I wouldn't have classified half of the students I taught last year as SPED. But I'm not a SPED teacher. I don't think laziness and defiance qualifies for SPED, but apparently, in the past, SPED teachers have.

The ones I teach now, I feel really are. And actually, they are better workers anyway. Very little "laziness" (about the only thing I see laziness in some of them is failure to study, including one who LIES to her mom that I changed the date of a quiz or test).
