I give the book 3 1/2 Stars!

I enjoyed it but it was a tad depressing!

I loved it. I give it 5 stars. Yes it was a tad depressing and had things in it I may not agree with but it really kept my interest and I enjoyed it. It also gives a side to how things were done in that time frame and before.

I would give this one 2 1/2 - 3 stars. Then ending saved it for me. I really liked how this book ended. Like someone else said, it was a happy ending to a depressing book.

My problem was not with the writing, it was well written. I think maybe the topic was not one I really cared for...I think that's it. I wanted to rush through it so I could read something else (I'm ALWAYS reading something). I gave the book to my Mom, I'm anxious to see what she thinks of it.

I read a lot of different stuff. Romance, mystery, John Grisham, Michael Crichton, James Patterson, Janet Evanovich, a lot fo the Oprah book club books, and I also read a lot of "kid" books--books like Harry Potter, Series of unfortunate events, and a lot of "kid" novels. I jump around a lot.

I voted for Wicked. I couldn't decide and I have had a copy of this since last Christmas. (I was cleaning out my nightstand and it was in a drawer under a bunch of stuff!!!) My mom got me the 2nd (?) book. It's called "Son of a Witch".

See I didn't like the ending. I found it a bit unfocussed and rushed. For 350 pages they took the time to get into what everyone was feeling, the details of their lives then, wham, in 50 pages out of the blue Caroline shows up to tell her about the child (no explanation of why she did this yet they talked about why she did everything else up until that point), Norah is happily marrying a Canadian (no less LOL) and moving to France, and they are all at the wedding and Norah jets off and Philip moves to Pittsburgh. All wraped up in a few pages. So I found the ending rather unsatisfying. I enjoyed the story of Caroline more than the other half. I was rooting for her, hoping she'd find a good guy and settle down, whereas I just wanted to tell the other

I think Caroline found it was safe to tell Norah then because by that point Phoebe was grown and anxious to to be out on her own. The threat of Norah taking her away and raising her was gone. I liked the ending. I thought she tied up the loose ends nicely.

I would give the book about 3 stars. It was well written but I found it hard to get into. I think part of the problem was that baby death and child disability have been so much a part of my own life that it was harder to separate my own experience from the story than I thought it would be.
