dyk in our district there are 3 elementary schools, and attendance is based on where you live
dyk I'm pretty sure that Ian could come to the school I work at if I requested that and could transport him
dyk But I don't have any desire for him to switch schools
dyk we have one middle school and one high school

dyk there were drenching, pouring thunderstorms at the end of the fair
dyk They didnt' do the rabbit judging in the official way that they used to, so no best in show and best of breed award, that was really disappointing
dyk Aquasaurs are some kind of dinosaur fish, Ian got an EduScience kit for his bday where you hatch the dehydrated eggs and get dino-fish
dyk he also got a kit to grow cariverous plants such as venus flytrap and some others I never heard of.
dyk I guess the world of toys has come a long way since Sea Monkeys, remember those?

*I* get the choice, but not everyone does. Being an employee of the school board allows that to happen. Otherwise, you go where you are zoned for.
What I think is remarkable about that...okay, I can see allowing your child to go wherever you are (including me being at the middle school, her going to THAT elementary school), but to say that your children can go anywhere in the district!
our district (which is still the whole parish) has something like 39 schools. We are lacking in the high school area, though. And the way they have things is really annoying.
There are the smaller communities which have one elementary school (or one upper & one lower), one middle school, one high school--and in some cases, these are combined--we have 2 K-12 schools and a couple schools that are divided K-6, then 7-12.
But in the larger communities--there are a whole bunch of elementary schools (3-7), feeding a couple of middle schools, then one high school. That is so stupid. And they talk about building new high schools in these areas and the "natives" are so against it. Mostly because of sports. (Okay, create a sports school and an academic school and I'll GLADLY send my child to the academic one!!!)
LOL--sea monkey industry grows....
Too bad they didn't do the rabbit judging well.
I still haven't decided where she will go to high school. I guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
dyk I am tempted to use my employment with the district to find out who Ian's 4th grade teacher is
dyk I could have requested anyone I wanted since I work in the district but I really try not to ask for specific teachers and I don't know who I'd have wanted him with, I wanted his teacher to choose, but I would like to know
dyk this is the first year that they didn't tell us with the end of year report cards in June, we don't find out til mid August, same time the middle schoolers get their schedule
dyk I can't believe that in another year, I will have a middle schooler and a high schooler and that's it
dyk I feel like Ian has so much maturing to do to be ready for middle school
