LET'S TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT!

LET'S DO A MONTHY DYK THREAD--THEN WE CAN TRY TO BEAT EACH MONTH'S TOTALS!

I ALSO THINK IT WILL BE MORE "WELCOMING" TO NEWCOMERS!

SO WHAT A GREAT TIME TO TRY IT SINCE THEY ARE SHUTTING DOWN OUR #4 THREAD!

"dyk I am tempted to use my employment with the district to find out who Ian's 4th grade teacher is"

I tried that when Aly was in 3rd grade (my first year working, and her last year that she didn't get ALL of that grade's teachers). Didn't work.

Since it was my first year, I was now having my own open house...which happened to be the same day as Aly's. Mike & Aly were going to go regardless, but I wanted to know before then. I still made it to her Open House, it was just later.

I think there are some major things going on at Aly's elementary school this year. 2 teachers resigned (one left the state, one left the district), 1 teacher transferred, I think 1 or 2 retired. But what really gave me a red flag was that I ran into my neighbor's daughter. My neighbor has 2 years left. She LOVES being a teacher, is always gung-ho, just amazing. Well, I asked the daughter (making small talk), "Your mom's ready for school?" And she said, "No, I have never seen her so not ready to go back."

So, it makes you wonder...

I do know that those working at central office have access to the students' schedules...lol. Last year, I was supposed to have (which means, this year I will) 2 central office employees.

They both knew their kids' schedules, and I didn't even have them in my hand yet! One told me his son was in my homeroom and X hour, the other told me her son was in Y hour...lol.

But, they were wrong...I didn't teach them at all! ;o) But, I will this year.

I am so excited about this year's group!!!! I had a really great 7th grade group my first year of teaching, but then to have this same really hard group for 2 years (6th & 7th), I am so ready for a fresh start. And news is, they are a great group!

dyk wow that's quite a big district
dyk I"m sure there are benefits to a large school district and benefits to a small one
dyk we have a new superintendent starting, I met him once
dyk And the asst superintendent jobs are open too, actually I think they filled one
dyk I suspect the other may be filled from within

We have a new superintendent, but he's been asst, and has been with the district forever. I was so happy when he was elected. I expect great things for our district.

Aly has a dentist appt tomorrow. It's at 8:30. She had her choice of times, and SHE chose 8:30, to have the rest of the day to do whatever. Needless to say, she didn't know she would be nocturnal through the whole summer...lol. So, she's not a happy camper right now.

But she has a library program tomorrow afternoon that she'll enjoy (acting class).

Tues, I'm planning to go into my classroom and get as much up on the walls as I can (I don't have access to one complete wall, and another wall will have to remain plain for a while...the previous teacher had her own bookshelves there, so there's no poster strips there (and we can't put anything up without the strips).
