they do take a lot of working vacations. They are both employed by the Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory, and go all over the Rocky Mtns. They took us to Bryce Canyon & Zion which are 2 places that they do bird counts often, and earlier this summer, they got to go to Yellowstone.

bird feeders can be a pain!

Mike bought me 2 beautiful bird feeders a few years ago for our anniversary. I put only sunflower seeds in them because I had a bag full. I thought the mixed was better. Well, when his friend came in and saw it, he mentioned that sunflower seeds are better for them--have the oils they need. The mixed has a lot of "trash" seeds that are bad for birds.

So, I kept buying sunflower seeds until last spring. Never had problems with mice, but squirrels were bad (and comical). We went to the Baton Rouge Earth Day celebration and found out that safflower seeds aren't attracting to squirrels. So, I bought some--turns out they keep sparrows away too!!!

I do still keep bird feeders with sunflower seeds out (I bought 2 cheap ones), but way out in my backyard (and not a nuisance to neighbors..lol).

I also have 3 hummingbird feeders (you don't have to buy the red nectar--as long as you have red on the feeder, clear sugar water is better for them).

I would like a suet feeder, but that will go FAR out with the sunflower seeds. Suet stinks.

I have a t-shirt on right now with birds on it. I bought it from the Audubon State Historic Site (the plantation where he lived for a few months). It has about 20 birds that can be seen in the area.

I don't know...right now we don't even have a principal, and won't until the night before teachers start!

We all thought (and were excited that) our AP was going to get it again. But the position has to be announced, so someone else applied for it as well.

Our real principal (the one that's taking a year of sick leave off) is there everyday, but it's not like we have a principal for the year yet.

from what I understand--if it's just fifth grade, they definitely won't, but if it's the whole school, it depends. We have 2 emergency days built in and they could possibly use those (hoping there's no hurricane or anything), but I don't know yet.

the junk on the counter doesn't bother me claustrophobic-wise, but it is so junky looking.
