Just a little curious...

I am new here and I am trying to figure out how to jump into conversations etc. It seems like you guys are very close and I wondered how long it takes to get to know whats going on around here...
But anyhow- I have a question- does anyone have ADD as well as a child with ADD? That is what I am going through right now- it is a recipe for crazyness! Getting him to do homework or bring it home is a big pain as well as him remembering a project a day befoe it's due. is this an ADD thing or a typical 12 year old boy thing? And what do you do about it when you are overworked and trying to stay on top of your life as well?
Thanks- strange question I know-but it's nice to have people to bounce ideas off from. All my other friends have older children and it's hard to relate to them.

I agree--it IS hard to get to know people when others seem so close already.

Hi Kamalala. I hope you aren't put off by us. But it doesn't take long to feel part of the group I don't think. We love new people here. You just have to jump right in and answer questions, pose questions, whatever catches your interest. Before you know it you'll feel right a part of the group. I hope so anyway.

Can't help you with the ADD question. I have no experience with that but I'm sure some other parents here will have something

Hi kamalala!

I think the board is awesome and really the only way to get to know everyone is to jump right in!

Hello and welcome to the board Kamalala. My name is Caroline and I'm the other community leader here. I've been married to my DH, Mark for 15 years and we have a DD, Hannah, in the 7th grade.

Just jump and start posting. We're a very open group here and love it when new people join our conversations. :)

I remember when my dd started Elem. School. The PTA "seemed" so cliquey. I just jumped in and signed up to volunteer for various things. They welcomed me with open arms. These gals had been together since kindi. Hannah started going to the elem. school in the 2nd grade. I felt out of the loop at first but soon I was part of the group. :)

Kamalala, if your DS is not keeping track of his assignments and he has ADD, I would discuss this with his teachers and ask what they can do to help, whether it means making sure he writes all assignments in a planner, or emailing all assignments to you each week.

As far as getting to know people, the best way is to just post!

Hi, I felt the same way about this board when I first joined. The easiest way to really get to know people is to participate in the DYK thread. We didn't have that thread when I first started on this board so I just posted to every message that I could relate to. This board is very active so as long as you are participating you'll get to know everyone pretty quickly.

I don't have ADD and my boys aren't ADD but my oldest son Matthew (11.5) has issues remembering assignments and when things are due. I have a white board that is a calendar. It's magnetic and we write assignments on it and it's an easy reminder for me and him. It's a new thing I just decided to do when he had three zeros and claimed that he "forgot" they were due. Now he has no reason to forget.
