Last few days of summer
Tue, 08-06-2013 - 4:42pm

I swear I say this every summer but man, this one flew by! My kids start back THIS Friday. Why on a Friday, I have no idea, it seems pretty random. Last year school started on a Wednesday.

My poor 14 year old will be starting the school year on crutches, thanks to fracturing his foot during a trust-building exercise (oh, the irony!) at summer camp a couple years ago. He also found out today that all 4 of his wisdom teeth will need to be removed at the end of this month. I don't know the average age for wisdom teeth to come in but I could have sworn it was later than 14! I was in my early 20's when mine were removed.

My 10 year old will be at a new school this year, his first year of "middle" school. He seems equailly nervious and excited, LOL!

What's going on with all of you? How many days lof summer do you have left?

Yah a Friday is just weird like why bother. Kids need routine and its like you go 1 day and get the next 2 off just start on Monday. We have a messed up start of the year. They start back the tuesday before labor day and go for 3 days. Get Friday off, then monday too as its labor day, then 4 days that week. Then they have the following Friday off for a teacher professional day. So its 4 weeks into school before the first full 5 day week. Its insane.

14 does seem young. I was in college when I did them. Seems between 18 and 22 was the age most people I knew did it but part of that too was get it done while still covered until parents medical. My coworker is in her late 20 and hers are impacted but health insurance won't covere it because of her age now. My DH is almost 40 and his needs to come out my in laws weren't big on dental visits when he was younger...

We have k-8 school but just found out a few weeks ago they start moving classes in 5th grade. Just 2, kind of like they ease them in and they have a main teacher who does core stuff but then another does history and science. Then next year they move for each subject. Think the transition is good idea they kind of get the idea. Plus 5th graders go in a different entrance then the k-4 so he is excited about not being with the little ones.

This is our last week of camp and day care. Next week true summer vacation starts with a week off with dad then a week with grandparents and then my oldest starts school and I get a week with my little guy before he starts (different schools) plus my oldest gets a week of having a SAHM.

I know a few other people who had kids start late last week also. How did the first day go?? I had mine out at 23, but a friend of mine had her's out when she was 16. My middle one starts 1st grade in 2 weeks, so we still have a bit of time to get supplies bought. And Jordyn leaves for college in just over a month. They are on quarters so they start later than some colleges.
