Megan was at a sleepover horse camp last week and they put on a little "show" for us when we picked up the girls. Megan is riding English (after only 8 - 10 total hours in a Western saddle) and was not only the youngest English rider at camp but the youngest rider at camp period. Back to the show. First they had the girls (20 total, 10 English riders) ride around the ring at a walk, trot, and canter (3x around at each pace). Then they played some skill based games. First, Simon Says - 5th out of 10 English riders. Next, they did a barrel race - 2nd out of all English riders and the winner was 17 years old. Finally, they had a tire race. The girls had to ride their horse to the far end of the ring, dismount, hand the reins to a staff member, crawl through a tire, come back to the horse, grab the reins and run with the horse back to the other end of the ring. Megan came in 2nd again - once again to the same 17 year old. All this at age 8 and only riding English for about a week and a half. I'm so proud!!! She looked GREAT in the saddle too. Wonderful posture, oozed confidence, and VERY happy! My mom bought her riding tights and half chaps and boy does she look cute!! The half chaps didn't really work with her boots so she didn't wear them. Should I post some pictures?
All in all, it was a great experience for her!
