Hey friends!  It's been a good morning.  It was also a good weekend.  I was productive in the kitchen, I made pie crust and then last night I put together a broccolli quiche for breakfast this morning.  So good!  I plan to make a spinach and bacon one later today for another day.  It is so cold here this mornng.  Brrrrrrr.  I didn't get to start working today, hopefully I will this week sometime.  The hire at a university is quite a process.  Makes me wonder is it's like this for the public school system.  So many signatures are neccessary.  Part of it is cause I will be paid with grant money so there is government involved.  Things always take a bit longer.  LOL  We are so excited.  Tim and I made our reservations for DC.  We chose to pay a little extra for a nice place.  Plus, we earn points and will get a free stay for another time.  Kinda of cool thing, ther longer we stay the cheaper the cost gets.  We aren't staying right in the DC area, we will be about 25 to 30 minutes outside but there is a metro station less then 15 minutes away from our hotel we will use everyday.  Kids are excited, Tim and I are excited.  We have never been to DC and this will be a trip of a lifetime I think.  Quite a memory.

I have yet to decide on dinner.  Maybe a pot roast, not sure.

I forgot to mention, my kids have school today.  First time ever they've had to go on Presidents Day.  Matthew is perturbed about it.  I could tell a few kids were skipping or did not know they had school.  Parking lot was pretty empty and traffic was easy compared to most days.

Regular school day here,  I just ordered an additional history program to add in to our CIvil War and Middle Ages studies  I hope this history interest continues after the Bee.  I am underwhelmed with the AP study book and flash cards I bought. He's breezing threw them and after hearing all about AP classes, I expected this to be a challenge. If all goes well we'll watch Lincoln's Killer tonight.  We're right at the asassination so the timing is perfect for it to have been aired.

Today, I'd like to get to 2 boxes in the garage (still from the move have about 10 left) and work on some laundry. I'm tempted to just donate the remaining boxes since they've been sitting there for 6 months and we haven't needed anything from them. I should go through them first just to make sure.  Lunch is a goat cheese and cranberry salad with wanuts over escarole.  Dinner is leftover vegetarian chili over baked potaotes.

How exciting about your trip.  We're going to make it an 8th grade trip.  Depending on when you're going, you might have time to contact your Congressman and get cleared for a White House tour.  I look forward to hearing what you see.  Where did you decide to stay- sounds like a great deal.  Please let me know how convenient the transportation really is.

Did Matthew have plans today that he is unhappy about having school?  Did the school explain why they were in class this year and not other years?

Heather, we are staying at in Centreville, VA at a Marriott hotel.  We chose to not have a Whitehouse tour cause they need to be planned pretty early, I read up to a year sometimes.  Also, Tim has no interest in meeting our congressman, we've met him here.  He's very active in our community. Kids could care less about all that as well.  I think there is an admission charge for a Capitol tour, they way it reads it sounds like it. Not sure though. We plan to by an all day metro card and use that.  There is a station about 10 to 15 minutes from our hotel.

About today and the kids in school, our state government gave our public schools a mandatory calendar, not a lot of wiggle room since the are required to be in class just over 180 days. We lost Fall break and some minor federal holidays we use to have. Matthew didn't have any plans, he just wanted to stay home cause he stayed up too late last night. He'll live.

I didn't mean visit your Congressman.  I am pretty sure you have to request White House tours from your Congressman's office.  I'd give it a try. You went to Nashville on a hope to get Bieber tickets, all this would take is a phonecall.   Capitol tours are free as is the Capitol Vistor Center  You order free tickets for the tour. so they can regulate how many people are coming through.
